Main man and leading inspiration for Irony, Dany is a prolific writer of powerful songs with profound lyrics. Melodic, dynamic, inventive, emotive, angry, sad, honest, weird, you'll hear all manner of influences here, from Dylan through blues, jazz, folk, punk, grunge and beyond.
Dave West - Lead guitar
A highly experienced and talented guitarist. Spot Dave..s driving prescence on ..Just A Wrong Number.., ..Back On The Streets Again.. and ..Something Missing.. from the ..Yeah, but..... album.
Marie Susplugas - Viola
Marie is a great, classically-trained viola player who adds a wonderful richness to the Irony songs.
Steve Sculpher - Bass
Bass guitarist with Irony since 1999 - the longest serving band member. An amazingly fluid player with a wicked sense of rhythm on 4 string, 5 string or fretless in any style. Currently teaching bass and setting up a home recording venture. Rehearsing with an R&B outfit.
Rupert Chandler - Drums
Master drummer; although only able to play pad drums on ..Yeah, but..... (due to it being recorded in the attic of a terraced house!), did stirling work - check out ..Just A Wrong Number...
Denise Baldwin (2004-2008) - Saxophone
Sax player in recent Irony lineups where her skills, enthusiasm and compelling stage prescence shine through. Although not featured on ..Yeah, but..... , Denise can be heard on various tracks of the ..Medicine Man.. album.
Martin Gray (1999-2004) - Saxophone, flute, percussion
Extraordinarily liquid sax player and flautist - a master of space and timing. Listen to ..Suitcases At Midnight.. from ..Some Wide Horizon.., ..Vapour Trails.. from ..Faraway Friend.. and ..Angel Of Death.. and ..Funny How Time Flies.. from the album of that name.
Steve Jones (1998-2003) - Keyboards
Ex Mungo Jerry and Heron, a virtuoso of the keyboards. Witness the exquisite end of ..These Images.. from the ..Yeah, But..... album and his unique prescence throughout ..Some Wide Horizon... Also the driving force behind the re-emergence of early 70s band, Heron.
Nick John (2002) - Lead guitar
Guitar virtuoso on ..These Images...
Mark Cooper (1998-2002) - Drums
Listen to ..The OSI.. and ..Out Of Our Heads Again.. from that album. A lovely bloke and a rock and roll heart!
Vince Cooper (1998-2002) - Lead guitar
Brother of Mark, played the beautiful acoustic lead on ..Down At The Waterhole.. from the ..Some Wide Horizon.. album and electric lead/rhythm on ..Fine Line.. and ..Out Of Our Heads Again...
Irony is the platform for the songs of Dany Hearn and the name of the various incarnations of his band and music.
Currently based in the South of France but quintessentially English, Dany continues to write and explore his musical vision through musicians, friends and contacts, new and old.
Many people regard Irony's songs as lost rock classics, although rock is not strictly accurate considering the diverse nature of their music. Melodic, dynamic, inventive, emotive, angry, sad, honest, weird, you'll hear all manner of influences here, from Dylan through blues, jazz, folk, punk, grunge and beyond. But 'pop' it aint!
Do Irony gig? Yes: though, unfortunately, Dany left a knockout band back in the UK in early 2006, he returns from time to time and the band often play gigs on these occasions. But don't expect to hear the sound of the CDs trotted out: live Irony is very loose, dynamic, constantly evolving and accepting of "happy accidents". There are many who prefer to see them live than hear the CDs, and some again who prefer Dany solo.
Be amongst the first to discover Irony's music. Here are 6 tracks you can download now, you can listen to some others on our main website or

Sounds like it's a little interesting over there. I always wondered if ones language abilities would improve when thrust into that culture, I guess not. Are you keeping busy?
I bet Mel at the D of C is getting messed around by the council. Could this venue be another that has to stop music because the vocal minority is to affect the majority again?
Anyhow, my albums in mastering and may even be out by end of March, in time for your visit!
Speak soon,
Oh Dany Boy!!!! Was floating through my friends section and found you hiding in there. Can't believe I missed that! I was listening to Monument To Love the other day. It's a brilliant track! I've one more day booked in the studio this coming Saturday which should hopefully see my album finished, minus the mastering! It's only taken 18+ months!
Thanks for dropping by my GINNI Album MySpace. I have another 2: MySpace.com/ginnihogarth (Official) and MySpace/mondayopenmicnight. I feel like I'm taking over.
So sorry for not getting back to you when you were here - it has been very hectic.
If I don't have a gig on the 8th Dec, James and I will come and see you at the Duke. I am now running my Open Mic there and it is fantastic - better than Crosses and the Harte & Garter.
We do think of you alot and miss you not being in the UK. It seems that alot of friends have moved on and Windsor is seemingly changing.
Other than that - I have gone independant again and am rehearsing with the band and working towards a tour next year.
Lots to tell you, so I hope we can catch up when you are here.
Let me know if you have time to have dinner with us in the week.
Hi neighbour!
Thanks for looking us up.
The songs you have on myspace are great!
Wish we could get to see you in Windsor in December, but we have a gig that night in Bracknell!
Hope we get to see you while you're in England.
Best wishes always.
Renee and the guys.
