   About Daouets
Now, get Daouets on VINYL, CD, and MP3 from RiYL records!

We're proud to announce that Casey Holford and Yoko Kikuchi's wonderful split-EP, "This Song / That Song", was released internationally today! You can download the four-song EP from iTunes, Amazon MP3, eMusic or Napster. Alternately, you can head over to the RiYL Records Online Store and order a copy of the limited edition, hand-numbered vinyl/CD pressing. Here's a little sample of what the EP has to offer:
Casey Holford - "That Song". Spread the word!

DAOUETS is a mini-supergroup devised by three musicians who, as tireless collaborators in New York, wanted a little space for their solo material to breathe. Switching off instruments, songwriters, and moods with ease, the group draws on its diverse musical heritage and the diverse talents of its members.

WHO WE ARE:

YOKO KIKUCHI was not named after Yoko Ono. She's not the Yoko Kikuchi who plays the piano, either. Yoko grew up in Lower Manhattan, left to pursue a degree in "photography", and returned four years later to pursue a life of "hanging out and playing music." She's released a solo record (Songs I Wrote For You, 2003), and one with her band, Dream Bitches (Sanfransisters, 2005), and is currently working on a new triple solo release and a new Dream Bitches record (with Casey Holford as producer). Her music has been described as "melodic, dreamy", and "punky", whereas the lyrics have been called by some "caustically biting", "bitchy" as well as "sweet". Yoko finds these adjectives to be acceptable and possibly true.

CASEY HOLFORD was raised on folk music and drawing pictures in Massachusetts. Now, living in Brooklyn at age twenty-seven, he has recorded three solo albums and an EP. Aside from playing lead guitar in Dream Bitches (with Yoko) and bass in Urban Barnyard (with Daoud), Casey is also a prolific producer, helping to document his community by working on projects for many of his fellow songwriters, including Dan Fishback (Cheese on Bread), Phoebe Kreutz, Dream Bitches, Urban Barnyard, and, of course, DAOUETS. He has been called "the missing link between lesbian folk, DC punk, 80's synth-pop, and classic rock," which sounds pretty awesome.

DAOUD TYLER-AMEEN grew up on the lower east side of Manhattan. His songwriting career began in high school with a string of extra-credit projects about literary characters and the life cycles of plants. After graduation he started a new project called the Art Sorority for Girls, a collection of story-songs about the awful messes kids can get themselves into. Daoud's versatility as a drummer and multi-instrumentalist is the creative glue that holds DAOUETS together; hence the name. When an angst-ridden, fourteen-year-old blogger from Rochester, NY found a few of Daoud's songs online, he responded: "So, in one swoop, Daoud Tyler-Ameen restored my faith in humanity. So, thank you, Daoud, you aren't just for girls anymore."
