Dapo Torimiro is a Producer, Songwriter, Multi-instrumentalist, and Artist. Born and raised in Nigeria, a beautiful, coastal country in Africa, Dapo’s career aspirations in the music industry were much bigger that his native country could ever fulfill. Dapo was producing a variety of album projects in Nigeria when a CEO of a small, yet well-funded American record label met him and signed him right away. As one of his many projects, Dapo was the only male in a four member gospel/R&B group, Kush. With Dapo as their producer and co-member, Kush was whisked away to the world’s best recording studios in London and Los Angeles to record their debut album, “The Experience”.
Seeing the undeniable talent in Dapo, the CEO of the record label utilized Dapo’s multi-dimensional talents to help develop the sound of the other artists at the label. Dapo was a critical factor in working one-on-one with each artist to help shape the artists into presentation-worthy artists. He also lent his talents in their album production with songwriting, musical and vocal arrangements, production, and later, in tour consultation and support. The joke of the label was that Dapo WAS the label! Luckily for the label, Dapo’s musical and production abilities are so diverse that no two songs sound alike. Whether he’s writing and producing a jazz song or a rock song, an R&B song, or a gospel song, one thing remains constant, the end product will be both absolutely unique and yet authentic to its genre. Dapo was the record label’s “goose laying the golden eggs”.
In only two short years, Dapo had worked with the best of the best the American music industry had to offer in the best recording studios in the world. Word got out and before he knew it, his circle of opportunities were growing as he was producing artists’ albums outside of the confines of the record label. Dapo decided to expand his horizons and went out on his own, away from the record label. Soon after, the movie studios started calling. The film screening invitations started rolling in from film directors to lend his songwriting talents to a new arena of music, music for film. He co-wrote and produced every song for a Christmas movie which aired on a major network in only 2 weeks after the music producer originally attached to the project dropped out at the last minute. The music Dapo created for “Christmas at Water’s Edge” was diverse, inspirational, and truly an amazing feat for such a tight deadline. Working day and night, he not only completed the job, but he delivered an amazing body of work.
Currently, Dapo is working on his debut album which has already drawn comparisons to the music of Sting and Seal. He also continues to write music for film, produce artist album projects, and perform live gigs with various artists. Recently, Dapo met his biggest inspiration and jazz legend, Chick Corea. Spending sometimes up to 18 hours a day practicing keyboards, Dapo aspires to be a fraction of what he sees in Corea. “It was a dream come true meeting Chick”, he gushes. Also, Dapo was able to not only meet - but to perform on stage - with another one of his idols, Stevie Wonder. It was a surreal moment for Dapo trading solos on stage with the legendary Wonder.
People have often compared Dapo’s talents to the likes of Stevie Wonder and Prince, and if that’s true, that’s only half of the story. Dapo doesn’t just perform great music, or just write and direct successful album and film music, he evokes music. It’s like a call to the other side of our mundane existences, to all the unearthly sounds that we mere mortals only dream of as a possibility. He seems to know each sound personally and can call by name, one-by-one, for each project as he sees fit.
Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year. It is the time of year to go deep within to renew and regenerate your energy. It is a time of rebirth, a time to plant seeds for the future and to set intentions for the next cycle as we return to light.
As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others.
Wishing you positive energy to move into the light.

Tom Joyner wants this information to reach his listeners.. You have probably heard of 'NUD' as a result of the Tom Joyner morning show related to Comp USA . NUD (Non Urban Dictate) is the acronym for a very subtle and litt le-known marketing term specifically directed toward people of color.
'Non Urban Dictate' These three words essentially mean that a company is not interested in the Black consumer. A NUD label means that a company does not want their marketing and advertising materials placed in media that claim an urban audience (black folks) as their main target. There are legitimate reasons for companies not using urban radio. It may be that Blacks don't index high in certain categories or that a company's strategy is to market to the Black consumer down the road after they have established a strong position in their primary target. But, NUD usually means that a company is not interested in the Black consumer. Companies evade discrimination liability by embracing it as theory rather than policy. As a service to Black consumers, the Urban Institute will list all companies that have a NUD policy. Armed with this information, we feel that Black consumers will be able to make informed buying decisions.
