| About dARA |
|
"deciding and Accessing Resolve in America" is mainly the recording side project of musician Larry Ravenswood w/ contributors Darrell Jurgensen ( the dARA recording engineer who also contributed vocals and drums) and w/ occassional vocals by Cynthia Fletcher-Dustin (incl. "Imagination, "The Voodoo"). In fact, some of the now dARA songs were taken from a project Larry & Cynthia had in the 90’s called "Life After Dark". Adjectives are sometimes tough, but dARA can best be described as "downtempo, slow moving, a little gothy(at times), but not too much and shoegazy(at times)".
In 2003, dARA put out a 7 song ep entitled "Spirits Awakening". Much of the tracks produced has a sort of dark & mysterious undertone to it, and a couple are quite beautiful actually.. definately "ideal for sountracks" as Larry puts it. The instrumental "Bayern Curve" and "I’ve Died A Million Times" is emblematic of this dark and mysterious undertone, while tracks such as "Madness" and "When I Grow Old" is melodically pretty yet melancholy.
Siting Massive Attack, Low, If Thousands, Bowie, Gary Numan and Ultravox as one of many influences, dARA will never be pegged as "dated" or "unassuming", for whatever that means. All dARA tracks were produced and recorded @ studio 242 in Ramsey Mn. just outside of the Twin Cities.
Larry & Darrell had performed one live show under the dARA moniker, but the project is relegated to primarily record. Larry recorded a video of another "Spirits Awakening" track entitled "Breathe" (produced by David Copper) w/ friends Craig Olund and Eric Larson under the dARA moniker.
*Att: potential myspace friends:dARA runs from a rather slow computer..if a band(or anybody for that matter) sends a friend request and we don’t except, don’t take it personally. dARA checks out profiles first, but if you have so much goop on your profile and it takes us a half hour for us to get your profile on our screen, we won’t except as a friend..sorry
