| About D'arcana |
|
D’arcana. Progressive / Space / Experimental Rock. Formed in 2004 by Jay Tausig (with James Camblin on Lead Guitar and Shelby Snow on Bass) as an attempt to breathe some new life into the Classic Progressive rock sound. Heavily vocal and lyrical, the songs were written by Jay in a frenzied and seemingly unstoppable pace. Only one version of any of these songs was recorded. In other words, no demos. The foundations of the material was mostly a "first take affair" in an attempt to capture the initial spirit and mood of the songs and avoid the threat of potential over production.
"The Pyramid" served as the recording environment for the first three D’arcana releases. An actual pyramid constructed of wood and stone in the middle of 40 acres and near a large pond. Very serene with no neighbors close enough to hear the sonic blasts that would erupt there quite frequently.
D’arcana never really found a permanent drummer (jay played the drums for the recordings) and ultimately resulted in less live performance than would have been otherwise possible. Some very excellent gigs occurred nevertheless. (headliners at the 2007 Tribal Stomp for example). A very poorly attended gig in Red Bluff was filmed for posterity and even though the sound quality wasn’t quite up to snuff, it yielded some fine performances. Perhaps they will appear here soon.
