Born in Beijing into a musical family, D’arcy started classical piano training at the age of 4, and made her vocal debut at age 8 on Chinese national TV.
Since moving to Canada, D’arcy studied with the highly acclaimed vocalist Dee Daniels. Her recording credits include lead vocals on albums by South American artist Edgar Manuela and a CD for the world music ensemble Tandava, as well as background vocals for the Juno-nominated album Road to Kashgar by the Orchid Ensemble.
In 2004, D’arcy represented North America in Beijing to compete in what was the equivalent of “Chinese Idol”. With the intention of bringing soul and blues onto the most watched chinese nationally broadcast "talent" show, D’arcy came in 7th place.
D’arcy has also performed with jazz and gospel pianist Peter Dent, World Music ensemble ASZA, and Juno-nominated artist Randy Raine-Reusch. To D'arcy, the best part of music is not only reaching to the audience, but also the experience of combining talent when working with other artists. Sharing a musical/creative moment with another talented musician/artist, whether on or off stage is one of the most inspiring and soul-shaking experiences.
Based firmly in pop and R&B, her passion for music has expanded greatly over the past years into blues, soul, jazz, Hip Hop, and even world music.
D'arcy holds a strong belief and value in being experimental and fusing genres when it comes to writing and production.
