Just me at this point. Recorded these songs with a little help from my friends Steve Parrish (Bass on all tracks, BGV's and Production), Glenn Cantrell (Lead guitar on "Great Big World", "It's Not Your Time" and "Wondering Why") and Randy Walker (Drums on all tracks). I did all the lead vocals and all the rest of the guitars.
Influences
The Beatles, Ace Frehley, The Knack, The Romantics, Joe Jackson, The Beat, The Plimsouls, ALL Power Pop, 38 Special, Night Ranger just to name a few!
Daren grew up like alot of other kids lisenting to the golden sounds of the AM radio during it's hey day in the 70's. Being born in Phoenix, AZ, Daren was into the Beatles and wanted to be Ace Frehley of KISS like lots of kids. So he tried playing guitar when he was 9. He loved it and it pretty much has consumed his life since. He started playing in bands by the time he was 13 and has never looked back
when it comes to music. "I grew up listening to KISS, Cheap Trick, The Beatles, The Romanitics, Joe Jackson and the Knack." This is were he aquired the love of power pop music. In the mid 90's he cut his teeth out in the Tempe, AZ music scene with his garage/powerpop/altcountry band The Gripweads and set the record for opening every Monday night down at the now defunt Long Wongs for the Piersons!! (Now that was a great fuckin band) After the demise of the Gripweads, Daren started the rocking power pop band "The Naked Chollas" in 1996. With the Chollas putting out two discs of music he needed to get his own songs recorded. This is Sweet wearing his power pop heart out for everyone to see.
With the soon to be released "Pop's Three Minute Pleasures" Sweet hopes to give the power pop world another tune to hum along with. Guess we will have to see!!
