About me:
The Sister Schools Program is an initiative to connect American middle schools, high schools and universities with schools in the Darfuri refugee camps located in Chad.
Over the past six years, the ongoing crisis in Darfur has forced millions of Darfuris to flee their homes to IDP or refugee camps. Over 150,000 Darfuri children currently live in the Chadian refugee camps, which lack adequate school buildings, teachers and classroom supplies.
The Darfur Dream Team, a dynamic partnership of organizations and NBA players, formed the Sister Schools Program to give the refugees a chance to receive the quality education they will need to help build a peaceful Sudan.
U.S. schools can form a sister school link, through which students can develop connections with their Darfuri peers and help raise money to build schools, pay for teacher training and salaries, and buy supplies, books, desks and sports equipment.
Though the ongoing crisis has severely impacted the lives of the Darfuri children, the Sister Schools Program is working to provide a stable school environment so that they can learn, grow, and look toward a brighter future.
