Hovering somewhere between Robyn Hitchcock and Jay Farrar, between The Beatles and Bowie, Darin Murphy has earned a reputation as a gifted songwriter, musician, producer and well-defined pop artist from the huge talent pool of Austin, TX.
Raised within the music and theater communities of Houston, Murphy grew up surrounded by musicians, actors and DJ's, developing versatile music skills and an encyclopedic knowledge of pop records. After releasing two CDs with his sister Trish Murphy in the mid 1990's, Darin moved to Austin and carved himself a niche. Solitarium, Murphy's self-produced, self-performed solo debut, drew praise from critics, record retailers and curious listeners worldwide. In 2001 the follow-up, Haunted Gardenias, brought songwriting awards, year-end top ten lists and regular airplay on commercial AAA radio. In 2005, Murphy landed his first Broadway gig out of nowhere, acting and singing in Don Scardino's LENNON at New York's Broadhurst Theatre.
When not fronting his own band, Darin drums and sings in SKYROCKET! and Future Clouds and Radar (see links on this page). He also teaches, composes music for commercials and does voiceover work.
