DIMP - Dark Improvised Music Project is a special project run by Alan Emslie, who is best known for his outstanding classical period instrument performances in Europe with the likes of Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment & Le Concert d' Astree with the likes of Sir Simon Rattle, Cecilia Bartoli & Emmanuelle Haim, and has just finished recording a major BBC Television series entitled "The Birth of British Music" with conductor Charles Hazlewood.
With DIMP he brings you something very different.
DIMP is unique in that the music performed can be tailored to the event/promoter's needs. The music can range from Contemporary Classical to Ambient & all the way through to full on Industrial/Alternative/Metal with devastating beats.
DIMP's music ALWAYS retains a potent menacing dark feel, combine this with an energetic improvising performing style & the listener is left stimulated both in a aural & visual way.
DIMP are extremely flexible & use state of the art equipment to enable them to perform in Art Galleries, Theatres, Clubs, Churches, Concert Halls, Open Air Venues, Universities, Schools, Industrial buildings, infact almost anywhere as long as there is electricity!
DIMP also can perform in Quadraphonic sound, surrounding an audience in sound.
Alan Emslie is of course best known as a percussionist, but in DIMP he also employs a whole range of customised & wierd & wonderful instruments to create DIMP's spellbinding soundscape including live & recorded multi-electronics, endless sound manipulators, customised sub-distortion guitars & inhuman voices! There is not a lack of humour in Alan's presentation & this adds a vibe to the performances which Alan frequently performs with special guests.
