Heroes are for suckers. At least, the heroes that are regularly portrayed on television, in comic books, and anywhere else. My Heroes section used to be half joke, but now, I'm being serious. My one and only hero is Carole Pearson. She is superhuman in her ability to take other people's shit. Physically and emotionally tortured by her father for most of her life, she has risen above it all without offing herself. For this, she has my ultimate and undying respect.
I am nobody important. I am every person you've ever bumped into on the bus but never spoke to. I'm the guy you might have admired from afar but never had the courage to actually talk to. Simultaneously, I am also the guy you walk several blocks out of your way to avoid running into on your way home.
Who I really am has no bearing on reality, because I'm in your head. I'm really an infection, an idea, a niggling thought burrowing deep into your subconscious, the thing that you have night terrors about one second, but then can't recall the next. I'm the cure for the ailment that is humanity. I am your salvation from ignorance, if you'll only listen to the words I wish to share with you.
I am the Good Reverend. But not always good. Sometimes I'm also the Devil's Advocate, and his prosecutor. Judge, jury, and executioner.
And finally. I am you. You are me. Step forward, and mayhaps we can be one.
