Drop the needle: 'Devil May Care' is the hotly anticipated solo debut from Sacramento legend Mike Farrell. Former lead guitarist, vocalist and co-writer in rock n' roll heroes Sex 66 and co-founder of the Brazilian-psych-pop sweethearts Daisy Spot, Mike has put in the hard years as a Northern California-based performer, and has the bloodied knuckles and gritty rock psyche to show for it.
It's precisely this spirit that informs the moods of 'Devil May Care'; tales of twitchy rebellion, psychedelic heartbreak, and ultimately, a fearless search for some new kind of satisfaction. These are feisty dog-day stories best told on thick red vinyl, taking listeners back to the urgent danger of rock's vintage years gone by, with a demonic smirk and a healthy nod to the future.
The recording sessions for 'Devil May Care' were augmented by a stellar crew of Nor-Cal veterans, including drummer Mike Curry (Rusty Miller, Tim Bluhm, Jackie Greene, Phil Lesh) and multi-instrumentalist Lee Bob Watson (Santa Cruz Gospel Choir, Jackpot, Happy Mayfield). Fueled by old Bon Scott interview clips, cigarettes and coffee, the sessions were tracked and mixed to tape at Station To Station in the hills of Grass Valley with studio owner/engineer/co-producer Dana Gumbiner (Deathray, LGS). Using a motley collection of old tube amps, dusty keyboards and deviant noisemakers, Mike and his band dug in deep and refused to come up for air until they had 40 minutes of brazenly textured Rock N' Roll.
Now Mike and his band are ready to take this breathless pilgrimage on the road, eager to reclaim that firecracker zenith from all the rip-offs and squares.
Look for them at a cozy-cool venue near you!
