The wireless has been ever present in my life from a young child. I could see the transmitting masts of Brookmans Park through my bedroom window in Welwyn Garden City and was fascinated by the fact that the sounds from my Philips transistor radio came from there. Even as a kid I thought that many presenters of the time talked rubbish between records. Of course in the late 1970’s we where, yes indeeedy, at the height of the, Poptastic 21 and a half minutes past 1, Smashie & Nicey era on Radio 1. The one presenter who always stood out for me was Noel Edmonds. Amazingly creative on the radio before the TV career took over (get back on the radio Noel!) It never struck me that I would ever be a radio presenter until I was 16 years old. As they say the penny dropped and I joined Radio Hertford (now East Herts Hospital Radio) and did my first amateurish shows in 1989 (some people say they have never got any better!!!) I have since broadcast on other Hospital, RSL, Community and Commercial Radio Stations. Hosptal Stations include Radio Hertford, Radio Brockley, Kettering Hospital Radio and Radio Gwendolen. RSL’s include Radio Cracker, Crush FM and Radio Lutterworth. Commercial Stations include KCBC, Connect FM and Lite FM and Community Radio Station HFM based in Market Harborough.
My name is Darren Harte and I have presenting radio programmes since 1989 on Hospital, Commercial and Community radio.
