Darren Morris is a
musician and producer based in St. Leonards (Hastings), UK who, over the last
11 years, has worked closely with musicians, DJs and producers both in London
and New York. These include long-term collaborator Tim Goldsworthy (DFA Records),
David Holmes (DJ/Producer), producer Jagz Kooner (The Aloof, Reverend and The
Makers), X-Press 2 and Ashley Beedle. Darren is credited on over 150 recordings
to date, playing keyboards and bass.....
Since 2006, Darren has been writing and producing with
Ashley Beedle, releasing works on Beedle’s label Out Hear under the names of
Warbox Allstars (reggae, old school rootsy sounds) and The London Heavy Disco
Review (disco/psychedelia). Notable Beedle remixes were for The Rolling Stones
and Bob and Damian Marley.
The most recent album Mavis, jointly produced and written by
Darren and Ashley, is to be released mid February (2010) on K7 records. A whole
host of guest artists appear on this, including Candi Staton and Kurt Wagner
(Lamb Chop).
With his own studio in an old, converted school in St.
Leonards, Darren writes, produces, mixes and performs on projects all under one
roof. His most recent production and writing project, Dansette Junior featuring the talented singer Will Hunt - got signed to Columbia Records and
will be released mid 2010. Another production to look out for is The Off-Key
Hat (Darren and DJ Leon Mayes), which has releases on London’s Dissident
Records and Chris Tubbs’ Untracked label.
During the
period 1997-2001, Darren performed on Holmes’ remixes and productions, notably
the soundtrack to Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Out of Sight’ film, recorded in LA.
Darren spent 5 months in New York with Holmes co-writing the album ‘Bow Down to
the Exit sign’ which was released in the winter of 2000 on GoBeat! Records.
Remixes with David Holmes include The Manic Street Preachers and U2.
Around 2001, Darren teamed up with the
producer Jagz Kooner, to play on numerous remixes as well as Primal Scream’s
‘Exterminator’ album. Darren and Jagz continue to work together; recent work
includes 2 outstanding remixes for Oasis.
Performance wise, Darren has played keyboards
notably for British artist Gabrielle in her live performances since March 2000
(tours and TV); and in 2006-2007 the band Sugardaddy - Tim Hutton and Groove
Armada’s Tom Findlay. Before this, his performance background was based around
London’s improvisational music scene and the Avant-garde.
