   About Darren Morris

Darren Morris is a musician and producer based in St. Leonards (Hastings), UK who, over the last 11 years, has worked closely with musicians, DJs and producers both in London and New York. These include long-term collaborator Tim Goldsworthy (DFA Records), David Holmes (DJ/Producer), producer Jagz Kooner (The Aloof, Reverend and The Makers), X-Press 2 and Ashley Beedle. Darren is credited on over 150 recordings to date, playing keyboards and bass.....

Since 2006, Darren has been writing and producing with Ashley Beedle, releasing works on Beedle’s label Out Hear under the names of Warbox Allstars (reggae, old school rootsy sounds) and The London Heavy Disco Review (disco/psychedelia). Notable Beedle remixes were for The Rolling Stones and Bob and Damian Marley.

The most recent album Mavis, jointly produced and written by Darren and Ashley, is to be released mid February (2010) on K7 records. A whole host of guest artists appear on this, including Candi Staton and Kurt Wagner (Lamb Chop).

With his own studio in an old, converted school in St. Leonards, Darren writes, produces, mixes and performs on projects all under one roof. His most recent production and writing project, Dansette Junior featuring the talented singer Will Hunt - got signed to Columbia Records and will be released mid 2010. Another production to look out for is The Off-Key Hat (Darren and DJ Leon Mayes), which has releases on London’s Dissident Records and Chris Tubbs’ Untracked label.

During the period 1997-2001, Darren performed on Holmes’ remixes and productions, notably the soundtrack to Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Out of Sight’ film, recorded in LA. Darren spent 5 months in New York with Holmes co-writing the album ‘Bow Down to the Exit sign’ which was released in the winter of 2000 on GoBeat! Records. Remixes with David Holmes include The Manic Street Preachers and U2.

Around 2001, Darren teamed up with the producer Jagz Kooner, to play on numerous remixes as well as Primal Scream’s ‘Exterminator’ album. Darren and Jagz continue to work together; recent work includes 2 outstanding remixes for Oasis.

Performance wise, Darren has played keyboards notably for British artist Gabrielle in her live performances since March 2000 (tours and TV); and in 2006-2007 the band Sugardaddy - Tim Hutton and Groove Armada’s Tom Findlay. Before this, his performance background was based around London’s improvisational music scene and the Avant-garde.
