"Darren's
songs are heartfelt with poignant lyrics, and a beautiful sensitive touch.
We really enjoy it when he appears on the same stage as us." -
Andy Powell, Wishbone Ash
"On this,
a rare visit to Leeds, it is easy to see why he is acknowledged as one
of the best in the business by fellow musicians and fans alike. With a
stage presence that puts you at ease, to the point where you feel Darren
has been your best mate for years, this was a gig you didn..t want
to finish ... With songs that explore and analyse all aspects of human
life and behaviour, Darren is in a class of his own and Leeds can only
hope for a very quick return." - Paul Abraham, Yorkshire
Music Promotions
"I am very
impressed by his approach to music ... all his words are brilliant as
far as I'm concerned ... what an unusual delivery and how effective. Excellent!"
- Frank Hennessy, Celtic Heartbeat, BBC Radio Wales
"Where Darren
Poyzer appears, unusual things happen and people enjoy themselves ...
natural acoustic sound with trademark warmth, firmness and tenderness
from his guitar and seemingly effortless projection of the distinctive
voice that shares those same qualities ... Darren Poyzer had once again
produced an evening that mattered" - John Hepworth,
Leeds Music Scene
"... a truly
uplifting set that managed to reduce the wall-to-wall, packed out Green
Room to an almost religious silence ... his brutally honest, yet delicately
delivered narrative transfixed even the most macho of grown men in the
room ... equally though, Poyzer possesses a fighting spirit rarely found
and his punky edge, combined with a sharp sense of humour, had the audience
clapping along to the more upbeat songs. With backing from the very talented
Kirk McElhinney, Darren Poyzer captivated the diverse audience that had
piled into the venue and left everyone shouting out for more. Many of
the crowd had probably never heard of Darren Poyzer before tonights gig.
Now they would never forget him." - Vicky Andrews, St
Helens Star
"Darren
Poyzer - we think he's great" - House Of Harper, Nick
Harper Fan Club
"Singer and songwriter who combines raw emotion with socio-politics, humour and charsima, Darren has starred alongside many great contemporaries to wide and outstanding acclaim. Raised on comedy and performance poetry, he turns the angst of a Thatcher-era teenager into a burst of musical theatre, using little more than voice and acoustic guitar."
I presently perform live as a solo singer songwriter, though occasionally in duet or trio, with Kevin Farrell (guitar / e-bow) and Fluff (fiddle / cello).
I have independently released three cd's and one live concert dvd.
I make myself available for tours and support slots, and have been fortunate / dedicated enough to build a very credible cv and develop an accessible, entertaining and varied live performance.
I am a special needs music tutor, songwriting workshop leader and UK Visionary Design Award winning web designer.
..
My past lives found me as one of the most over-active live music promoters in and around Greater Manchester during the late 80's and 1990's, during which time I worked and performed alongside many famous names, some who like me were just starting out as writer / artistes.
I wear my past history of mental health problems on my heart, striving as we all do to ensure that lasting periods of stability and happiness become the norm, and accordingly therefore I presently choose to live out in the country where peace of mind can be found, despite the roadkill providing a regular sense of reality and reminder of life's chaos.
I'm young at heart, but experienced enough to know that whilst the vast majority of it's people would happily contribute to the desperate needs of the wanting world, my country of birth England is being repeatedly raped itself, it's people trampled on, it's children brought up on a diet of fear and acceptance of war, it's progressive approaches to healthcare and social welfare stripped of resources and spirit by the greedy and the murdering. Every move to challenge the fascists and deprive / challenge their media and institutions of financial and public support is a wise move to be proud of and take heart from.
I guess that if you share similar sentiments, I will remain and hope you always find me to be, an approachable, friendly, humane and decent man.
Hi, Mr Busy. You should be a Mr Man or something. Little cartoon character constantly on the go with his guitar in his hand, voiced-over by a man pretending to be Arthur Lowe (RIP).

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
Thanks Darren. I'm spent right now!!!! I have a few weeks off and it's a blessed relief. I'm gonna slow down a bit for the rest of the year, am putting out a live CD that's going to kind of bookmark the set I've been playing for the last few years, and give myself some time to write and get a whole new set. Anyhoo, how're you mate? How's your summer? Best wishes, Tommy :)
