About me:
I am the author of the book Is There a Hole in the Boat? Tales of Travel in Panama without a Car, silver medalist in the 2007 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Awards, and a finalist for ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Award.

"I consider this little book an exceptional, fun read and highly recommend it." --Kaye Trout, Midwest Book Review

"DuFord...does what few nonfiction writers can do. His words transport us to another world." --Lynn Peterson, BookReview.com

"an engaging read." --Terry South, Quality Book Reviews

"DuFord introduces us to the people of Panama, and he does it hilariously and most perceptively."
  --The Panama News

"DuFord is a talented travel writer, and does a good job of mixing political/social context with human observation."
  --Levi Asher, Literary Kicks

"Darrin DuFord brings a country and its people to life, and in the process tells some very good stories."
   --Alex McGilvery, Armchair Interviews

"DuFord...makes even the most questionable meal, such as bush rat, sound delicious." --Lisa Kisner, ReaderViews.com

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Bring your appetite. Bring gifts for the king of the Naso tribe.

Join Darrin DuFord as he hikes, bribes, and barters his way across Panama, a perennially overlooked filament of the tropics where DuFord encounters a startling richness of cultures between the nation’s two coastlines. Sitting down with everyone from scientists to town barflies, DuFord samples such local delicacies as fermented corn homebrew and slow-barbecued jungle rodent while, at every turn, taking the more vernacular--and much more enriching--options of transportation.

Whether jostling in the back of a pickup truck serving as the local bus or uncovering how the country is tackling its ecological quandaries, DuFord opens a window into the little-known day to day struggles and pleasures of the Panamanian people. Is There a Hole in the Boat? reveals a Panama that is not simply a place to watch bloated cruise ships edge along the walls of the Canal. It’s a land where the machete can slash through just about anything--except the nation’s spirit.

Happy Holidays! Hope you’re enjoying the season so far. Seems it has been quite some time since I spent some time on Myspace. I have been busy altering my website at www. tonycowger. com to reflect my newest efforts in the freelance and ghost writing markets and focus less on my own novel. Anyway, I hope the rest of your year is wonderful and that the new year holds all the abundance you want. If you or someone you know is in need of some writing help please send them my way at www. tonycowger. com. (For any help I receive from my Myspace friends I am offering a 10% finders fee to say thank you for helping out a friend so be sure to write and let me know in case your friend forgets to tell me. If you hire me yourself, that 10% would be taken off what you pay so, either way, you win.) I have experience in writing sales ads/presentations, non-fiction and, of course, fiction.
Thanks and happy holidays!

I’m rather excited because I have a small part in an upcoming film based on Steve Aylett’s book LINT. Remember how “Spinal Tap” was a spoof on Heavy Metal bands and “The Ruttles” was a take-off on The Beatles? Now, Science Fiction has LINT!

Here’s the trailer:

Thanks, Darrin. Not sure I'd want a Crystal Skull after seeing what they're capable of. Although, I'm sure I'd use such a skull only for good.

My machete is so sharp, I edged the grass along the sidewalks with it! Who needs power tools?

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
I always felt it was cruel to tell someone he looks like a monkey on his birthday, of all days, it always seemed like a jealous way to try to ruin the birthday celebrator's special day, so I won't. I will tell you that another day.
Happy Birthday to you.

Fling some poo today!
