Influences
Comedy influences are Jonathan Winter, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, Steve Martin, Martin Mull, Frank Zappa and Laura Bush. Music influences are Freddie Fleet and his band with a beat featuring the guitar excellence of Jim Lindsay, also digging The Darlins' (featuring my favorite jug player, Brisco Darlin).
Sounds Like
All over the map from jazz, r&b, rockabilly, blues, gospel, country, bluegrass and more. I listen to everything and can't help but absorb some of it. It's difficult for me to pigeonhole which really turns off most radio programmers.
Performed all over the US and Canada from 1975-88 with various original groups such as "Darryl Rhoades & The Hahavishnu Orchestra" and "The Men From Glad". Articles in Rolling Stone proclaimed he couldn't miss, but he proved them wrong. His musical groups were heavily into satire and compared favorably to The Fugs, Frank Zappa, The Tubes and others. The transition into standup was an obvious and easy choice to make in 1988 where he has been working a mininum of 48 weeks a year since that time. To date he has released ten comedy & music CDs which can be heard on his website: www.music-comedy.com and nationally syndicated radio shows such as The Dr. Demento Show. His CDs can be purchased on his website or CDbaby.com and downloads can also be obtained thru various site directed on CDbaby.com His website also has his bio history, pictures, schedules and more. Thanks for the add. How is the hardest working man in Lithonia GA? I see your number everywhere I go … Bill, my band mate is also a fan, who like myself, went to see you guys at the Great Southeast Music Hall where your humor and music had some effect on his still developing young mind. Thanks …
Hey Darryl. Thanks for adding me and I'm glad you are still doing it. Wait a minute...I seem to remember something about Pinetree Plaza on Buford Highway....roller rink??? You and the CVB and our band (the Groove Movement) splitting a show. We were all teenagers. So long ago I may be completely off. Glad to see ya'. Dennis
New pics posted of last weeks comedy. Thanks for a great night. Next time don't take so long in between shows... I don't want to wait another 2-3 years to see you again.
