Band Members What Radio stations around the world are saying about 'the cat within'

Vasja Ivanovski 94.1 FM RADIO 2 This CD is just amazing! To set an instrumental music of complexity such as John Scofield's material and put vocals on, is worth every commendation! Although a bit sceptic before listening, I admit, this works exceptionally well. Daryl has made a CD that deserves as much exposure as possible. Every cut is a winner and I can imagine Mr. Scofield smiling happy as his music steps up into another dimension! Excellent stuff!

Pascal Dorban Radio ARA , Luxembourg This is a very interesting album, something you do not hear everyday. To have the idea of singing Scofield's music is one thing , and not an easy one. DarylAberhardt managed to complete the task very well. He is helped by great musicians all the way. Great Australian jazz indeed. I will feature one of the tunes in one of my forthcoming broadcasts, next to a Scofield tune, which goes without saying. Pascal Dorban Jazz.com broadcast Radio ARA, Luxembourg

Uwe Golz Deutschlandradio Kultur nothing more to say, than - a superb interpretation, we all loved it, was presented as well as in Tonart (link) also in Radiofeuilleton.

Michael Criddle Triple H-FM What a great sound you have, I have played several of your tracks to date and plan to schedule more in future programs. Keep up the good work and please keep me up to date with your progress Regards Michael Criddle

Alex Pijnen BRTO Radio Fantastic Album

Barry O..'Sullivan BLU FM 89.1 This is a suberb album which raises the already high benchmark of jazz recordings we have in this country to new levels. Fabulous musicianship from Gary Daley, Brett Hirst and Dave Longo, and brilliantly executed lyrics and vocals from Daryl Aberhart make this a must have recording for the jazz buff. Not to mention the wonderful music of John Scofield!! I have already played a favourite track ,Remember Me, on my national radio program A Jazz Hour which goes out weekly to 140 stations across Australia via the CBAA network and will continue to select tracks from time to time for my playlist. Thanks Daryl for a unique unparalled compilation of artisic expression ! Barry O'Sullivan- A Jazz Hour.

What's new in Daz-Land ?

What to do after giving the instrumental music of jazz guitar legend John Scofield an inspired lyrical treatment?

DARYL ABERHART: The Cat Within

Well, while slowly finishing an album of original tunes, some of which are being co-written with Australian composer Sean Wayland, there is time for a little levity.
Currently, Daz is in the midst of producing a fun album of covers, working title 'Aussie Gold'.

This is a tasty R+B/Jazz/Soul/Funk collection of Daz's arrangements of the seminal radio songs of his youth, including classics by artists such as : ACDC- The Sunnyboys and Died Pretty.

The album will feature some of Australia's finest musicians including bassist Brett Hirst, Drummer Nic Cecire and guitarist James Muller.

The first sessions in the studio are in mid-march so stay tuned for news on this page

Below is one of the Daz's home made videos for 'Gonna Find My Way', one of the many beautiful tracks off ' The Cat within '-- singing the music of guitarist John Scofield

daryl, you are dead right. if music is all about connecting with other humans then you need to hear that response. hard to believe that jazz used to be a wild music. beatniks bowed down before charlie parker yelling yes yes yes.

cool is fine as long as it doesn;t turn into cold...

Nov 18 2008 5:45 AM

so it was YOU making all that noise and ruining it for all of us SERIOUS concert goers ha ha.

will def check out the waylands. i try not to listen to too much james muller - makes me want to put the guitar away for a while. (doesn;t matter, cos after scofield i burned my guitars anyways and took up the sousaphone...)

cheers.

Iain Ballamy

The Guardian
"leaves you in absolute awe" BBC

Reform APRA

Oct 19 2008 12:50 PM

The basic difference between ASCAP and APRA is simple at the core. The ASCAP contract is non-exclusive where as the APRA contract is exclusive. When you give exclusive control to your copyright upto an NGO governed by a corporate monopolists, strange things happen with your copyright. Strange illusions and explanations about copyright evolve through more NGO's that explain themselves to be councils for the people. The corporations have both sides of the coin by the balls, as they do with all things. The commons is most likely not the solution, yet exclusive control of your copyright, is for sure not the solution. You are tied to a Union that is a lie. APRA is lie and you have fallen for it. Its on par with the fed reserve... get out while you can, ASCAP is only a solution if you have something to collect! ASCAP in the US allow artists to license their art using any creative commons license and remain a member. Australian artists can join/transfer to ASCAP.

Your in breech of your APRA contract with your content on myspace, yet myspace have agread to pay the publishers, yet not you the artist without a publisher, for use of your content... what to do?
