Saxappeal; the name itself brings a new image to the music world. The young saxophonist, born and raised in Detroit has been playing since age 7. In fact, this young bird, barely able to stand on his own two feet, yet along fly solo was pushed out of the nest, musically speaking, after 6 months of playing his horn. Was it for the best? Well, put it this way, he hasn't taken a break from flying since that first gig! This now 21 year old extraordinary musician brings passion, love, hurt, anxiety, pain, happiness, and so many more emotions to the table while performing. I asked him what makes you so different from the other musicians out here? " I'm not," he says, humbly. "I know I'm not the best out here. I can only do what God has in my intentions, and thats to make real good, feel good music!" He then laughs, and I ask him why is he laughing. He says, "That's the quote from HotSauce!(An Internationally-known group, also from Detroit, who he says are like brothers to him.) This young artist has been all over the world, from small spots, locally in Detroit, to Chicago, Washington, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, New York(on several occasions, he says. His first trip was to perform at Carnegie Hall at the age of 17.) Germany, England, and many other places. I asked La Darrel (also know as Saxappeal) where did his musical name come from. He told me " My mom made it up. I was bein' really goofy one day, takin' pictures with my sax, with my button-up unbuttoned. So, my mom says,"Oh, you think you saxy, huh? You got that SAXappeal, huh?" "And it stuck from there." Saxappeal's music is a variety of hip hop, soul, r&b, even a little club sound to it. This humble, yet modest young man keeps a busy schedule. "I'm currently playing with Detroit's soul sensation, Dwele and his band. It's so easy to work with him because I can relate to his music." So, world, be on the lookout for this young brother.
