DAUGHTERBOY JAO2009 inches over the horizon . . . . . the rumour mill grinds away sporadically. Hiatus. Dead. Buried. Washed away out to sea . . . . . you wayward souls you.
2008 has ended . . . . with troubles and troublemakers left behind DBJ have been prolifically writing, recording are finishing up their first release since 2005. It will be damn fine indeed.
It will see the light of day very soon - may your eyes burn in the morning sun.
In the mean time check out the new songs ‘Repeat Offender’ and 'Please Surrender' . . . . .
Daughterboy Jao has a somewhat colourful history - releasing an EP titled 'Fake Blood and the Rest Is Unknown' in 2004 which contained the somewhat popular 'indie radio hit' titled 'Thrills'.
The EP was followed with a debut album, 'Simple Matters', in 2005 which included the singles 'Better for You and Me' and 'Simple Matters' which those keen adventurous people can find on itunes or a random torrent site. There are also some video clips (they can be found on the interwebthingy).
The band had the ‘pleasure’ of being invited to play and tour with some awesome bands including JSBX, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Black Keys, Beasts of Bourbon and other bands starting with the letter 'B'. They also played with bands starting with other letters of the alphabet too, even the letters 'Q', 'E' and 'F' but most of those bands weren’t as good (except for Queens of the Stone Age).
The band wholeheartedly embraced the trappings of rock n roll which led to the group disbanding 2006.
Daughterboy Jao came out of metabolic hibernation and reformed in 2008 and have spent the past year writing and recording new material for a release later in the year, with a smattering of live shows in between.
Previous reviews of band have used a range of nouns, adjectives and ego-stroking comparisons like this . . “ . . blending the rawness of the Kinks with a glam Lou Reed, a debt to that classic NYC-nihilism shaped by the Velvet Underground and re-popularised by the Strokes, a heavier dirty Tom Waits . . . .”.
Who writes this stuff, and, can it possibly be true? Quite frankly – who cares? A little mystery and intrigue never hurts . . . . .
G'day Come on down to the Tote on Sunday the 27th of September to celebrate the end of another Footy season. The back line will be ably defended by Gruntbucket. Coming off the bench to take their position on the wing are Dirty York. Winning the ball at all the stoppages will be the mighty mid field attack of The Get Go. They'll send the ball rocketing toward the fantastic forward line of Clinkerfield who are sure to kick a swag of goals. There'll be plenty of snags on the barbie to help with the hangover.
