Band MembersJust lil' ol' me

InfluencesA very broad taste in music. Mainly the grunge scene of the early-mid 90's. Bands such as Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, to bands like Stone Temple Pilots, NIN, Metallica, Pantera, etc but also like INXS, The Doors , Hendrix, Clapton, ELO, too. I like some of the newer bands such as The Arctic Monkeys, Hot Chip, Keane but i'm also a huge fan of Aphex Twin, Square Pusher, Goldie, Grooverider amongst other dance and drum and bass acts. Hip hop is one of my faves too, Public Enemy, NWA, Wu-Tang, Dre, Snoop, Nate Dog, Beastie Boys to mention a few. I dislike the wannabe wanky bands and solo acts who think they are Paul Weller, The Beatles, and Oasis (WANK), and also these floppy haired, and dads-clothes-wearing , malnourished bands with designer mullets who think there cool cos they don't know how to eat, dress and get their fucking hair cut properly!
Sounds LikeI'll let you folks decide

Hello all, I'm Dave Abbott. I'm ex-rhythm guitarist and co-songwriter of KRAVE (www.myspace.com/kravemusic).

First and foremost I am an extremely proud family man and love talking about them, they are the world to me. Family is God in my eyes and I thank him everyday as I'm luckier than a lot of people in the world for what I've got.

IF YOU REQUIRE A DEMO RECORDING BUT ARE ON A TIGHT BUDGET PLEASE GET IN TOUCH AS I NOW BOOK AND RECORD VARIOUS ACTS IN MY DVA STUDIO:

DVA STUDIOS

I am now a solo singer/song writer who records and produces his own material and would like to make a living out of it someday very soon. I have been fortunate to support Sandi Thom, Belle & Sebastian, James Yorkston, Journey South, and a pending support slot with The Levellers.

I am an honest, up front, black and white kinda guy who doesnt tolerate drama, b****x or bulls*** from anybody, that includes fellow musicians, promoters, venue owners, and everyone close to me. Lifes to short for that!"Do unto others as you would have them do to you". Luke 6:31 I'm a nice guy - just have not got time for anyone one who wants to be awkward or unhelpful - i treat people the way they treat me - simple as.

Please checkout my ex band KRAVE as it was by far the best musical experience of my life and wish all the lads from that band the best in everything they do.

Also look for UPRISE MANAGEMENT on my page too

UPRISE MANAGEMENT

Tiff is an excellent hard working promoter from Canada and has worked her ass off trying to get me 'demos-in-working' played on as many radio stations as possible - and for that I will always be grateful for.

Tottenham Hotspurs FC & Hull FC till I die and beyond ;)

Please feel free to email me: guitar_tutor@hotmail.com

HERE ARE SOME OF THE REVIEWS I'VE HAD TO DATE:

"Hi Davey Boy, Although we are not adding to our roster at present I have to say I was very impressed with your Soldier Of God EP, and would at the least consider to have you as a songwriter for some of our artists should you be needed."

James, Sony BMG, Newton Faulkners Management

"Hi Dave, Thanks for getting in touch with us. I've just been checking out your Myspace site, and "Vicky's Song" caught my ear. You certainly have an interesting style; a kind of blend of swing and acoustic feels, over which you quiet introverted voice sits very nicely. I heard a bit of Zero 7 in there, but you've certainly managed to hone your own style. Interesting stuff!"

Richard Hughes, Matchbox Records

"Hi Dave!

Thanks for mailing me. Im afraid all the support slots have been filled now for this group of gigs. But I'll keep you in mind for sure!

All the best with your music, looks like things are going well." x Beth Beth Rowley (www.myspace.com/bethrowley)

"Really enjoyed your set - good to have you onboard, Dave! - Will listen to your CD, thanks"

Sandi Thom - www.sandithom.com

"Some really awesome tracks man - keep in touch!"

Randall Brennerman - Sandi Thom's guitarist

"Will defo listen to your CD, Dave - it was a pleasure"

Craig Connet- Sandi Thom's percussionist

"Hi Dave, In response to your debut EP here is my opinion of your first 3 tracks: 1) yes 2) Yes 3) YES" Edwyn x www.myspace.com/edwyncollins

"Dave Abbott's 'Vicky's Song' is a timid number with a smoothly strummed guitar and insightful lyrics of love and affection. The relaxed vocal delivers the music and lyrics in a gentle way not demanding your attention but grabbing every second of it."

The calmness is disturbed for 'Omerta' and 'Hitman' as the drums take it up a notch and set a prominent beat, which stands out over the serenity of the underlying melody. These tracks involve more structure with chords and segments appearing. The vocals don't come across as strong with this harder rockier edge, it appears suited to the acoustic style of the first track where it's weakness is actually a strong point."

"This single is full of potential and if Dave Abbott steered away from his inner rock-god and stuck to the style of 'Vicky's Song' he'll certainly be heading in the right direction".

Beckie A - THE MAG

"But Oz is a great place to holiday so if you every do get out here, drop me a line and we'll slot you into a spot to play some of your tunes. The England cricket team will be out here in the next year or so. it doesn't seem that hard to get into that squad and there's your trip paid for. Keep coming up with those great songs."

All the best

Dave-PurePop Records

"Hi Dave, it was lovely to meet you last night - top gig, bet you are well chuffed!! Keep in touch, cheers, Downi xx"

Downi - Winner of the Sandi Thom recording competition 2007

u have a gr8 gig tonight rockin dave,, u know m8 u do alot of gud stuff 4 charity,, for that i'm proud to have u as one of my top m8s,, i hope the people around hull support u tonight bro,,,

"Hey Dave, thanks for the tracks mate, some top tunes on there, will get youonthe show as soon as, please bear with us, as we are bombed out, its gone bloody mad" love Moll & john www.myspace.com/monochromemuseum

"Best of luck with it. i really felt the passion of your lyrics. i hope you do well with your music." Best Regards, Ville Leppanen www.myspace.com/theanimalfarm www.theanimalfarm.co.uk

"Hi there Dave, Thanks for getting in touch with us. I've just been checking out your demo, and I really, really love it, especially "Kiss For Your Roses". Its got a really mellow Nirvana feel to it (such a thing does exsist!) and sounds really exciting."

Robert Elkin A&R Manager, MATCHBOX RECORDS

"Hey man, thanks for the note. I checked out your tunes, and you've got a good vibe. Reminds me of REM and Idlewild... and I'm quite a fan of both. Anyhow, thanks for the compliments!" God bless, Austin, Starfaddu (The band from the Kleenex ad!)

"Hull based singer-songwriter, Dave Abbott, has a goal to make a living out of performing his music, and this is a decent first step towards that goal. The title track is an up-tempo rock number that I suppose showcases what he could achieve in a studio environment, with a full band behind him. 'Vickys Song', is a delicate song, with gentle guitar and heavily reverbed vocals. The lyrics are both simple and effective, and altogether, this is a nice song. 'Thats What Separates Me From You' is another acoustic number that I imagine would also suit a powerful rock band, and shows that even acoustic acts can produce heavier numbers. I'm sure that this CD will be beneficial in helping Dave get future gigs, and taking the next step towards his goal." Gary Williams - SANDMAN MAGAZINE

"Hi Dave Many thanx for finding and adding us. Love your sound and your page. I see your from good old 'ull. Hopefully catch you at a gig soon. Give us a shout if there is anything we can do to help you." Regards Gemma:BlakeyMusicPromotions

"I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY VICKY'S SONG IS AMAZING DAVE GREAT WORK. KEEP THE TALENT A ROLLIN'" UPRISE MANAGEMENT TiFF

"Hi Dave, Just listened (finally!) to your two latest songs. Overall first impression is very distictive and for me you've captured a sound which really represents you. 'Kiss For Your Roses' - really cool swing - reggae groove. Very atmospheric and minimal so that when a few added bits weave in and take over, it really counts. Great retro reverb vocal sound (although I'd mix your voice up more on this one) and the percussive bit(?) sounds like an extension of your guitar. My favourite of the two is 'Omerta'. Fantastic minimal (that sodding word again - but less is more!) intro, which is very attention grabbing and then when it cuts to the more songy middle section, I'm really drawn in. Love the distinctive flanged guitar. This song would make a fantastic set opener - and your voice comes across really well. Very emotive. I can imagine you doing these live and them sounding pretty much like these recordings. Send 'Omerta' out to as many folk as possible. It's an absolute Abbott classic and very distictive! Anyway, hope this all helps. Good luck with everything. See you Saturday Dave." John Boy: www.myspace.com/coxbrothers

"Dave, love the tunes!" -TuneCore Your Music, Your Rights, Your Money! www.tunecore.com

"With song like his, its not hard to see why he would be so popular" Alan Raw BBC Raw Talent

"Really enjoyed Vicky's Song, and as our 'format' is generally electronica, progressive and experimental it had something that really worked about it. You have a terrific voice, and as you quoted hiphop as one of your influences, I wonder if there is a possibility that you might be interested in some kind of collaboration with one of our other bands."

MINT RECORDS UK

"Dave Abbott, performing this year at Oxjam 2007,takes the acoustic groove witha psychedelic tweak or two, perfect-pitch vox and scintillating songs to a higher level. No one sounds like him so you'll just have to take my inimitable, unquestionable word for it."

Lyric Laceile - Featured Artists Unsigned, UK

hi Dave, We listened to your tracks on myspace. We found you to be really talented in what you're doing ... If you would have a band supporting you (drums, ...) and you'd play your songs with an e-guit. then we feel your sound would be explosive; there's a strong rock n' roll attitude in it. We feel your songs telling us: "Play us with an electric guit. and we will blast away". In any case, there is talent and there is energy ... much energy. One thing is for sure: people will love your sound or hate your sound because your music doesn't leave people "cold".

We wish you all the best in your quest Dave.

Kind Regards

Remo Bei A&R @ LIP records Luxembourg

Sorry for dropping in unnanounced.... Im a scout for the Roxy League, We've listened to your stuff & we really like it, 'omerta' is a tune! We'd like to invite you to join the Roxy League. (I think you could do really well)

THE ROXY LEAGUE

THIS IS HULL.COM REVIEW I’ve been once or twice before and really enjoyed the respectable setting, the attentive crowd, the atmosphere and of course the food isn’t bad. First on stage tonight was Dave Abbott, having seen the recent article in the local press about the singer/songwriter I was keen to see what he had to offer. What that was, was a mixed bag of original material and covers sang with a confidence and gentle guitar sound.

The first song, What Separates Me From You was akin to Hessle band Still Life’s song Seventeen and introduced us to Dave’s strong vocals that were more evident in a reworked version of Hard to Handle. Kiss For My Roses original song, repetitive relaxed guitar motifs that will appeal to the MOR fan.

Vicky’s Song had strong local imagery and was very Hull. Omerta, Dave’s contribution to the Flood Aid CD sounded different to the recording and even more redolent live.

MICHELLE DEE, THISISHULL.COM

"The hardest working solo artist in Hull!"

Darren Bunting, Music HQ

Great Night Dave you knocked em dead, Well done I realy enjoyed the night, thanks we all ahd a good time and Donna asked whilst you was still on stage if you had your own CD out. (she is made up that she will get one). It was a Brill night Thanks again. If anyone has the chance to go see Dave Abbott then dont hesitate, you will not be dissapointed
