Sounds Like
me in my living room in costa rica with a bunch of cool musicians and a nice mix... jajaja
well, what can i say?
bottleneck is my first attempt at writing and recording music. it´s more of a journal, really, of the last 6 or 7 years of my life, most of which were spent living and working in central america and the caribbean.
i would roast coffee all day while a carnival of magnificent characters paraded in and out throughout the day for a cup of what more resembled liquid cocaine than coffee. of course, manu chao and bob dylan became the soundtrack to all of this...
enter tepeyac usto, a half-band of roaming thieves and musicians who convinced me that playing music is the coolest thing ever. alantl, goyo and jorge convinced me to come out of my musical shell.
we´re spread out about the planet now, but still connected in cyberspace. in fact, greg and alantl both participated in the recording sessions from mexico city and caracas. jorge took all the photos and sent them along from his laptop in baghdad, where he was covering the war. this album was recorded in 4 different cities and 3 different countries.
each song tells a specific story and has circumstances surrounding it. i hope you enjoy.
i thank all the talented and wonderful musicians who played on this thing, from my friend meg in costa rica, to alantl in venezuela, to greg in mexico, to the chicago crew. by the way, chicago is full of talented musicians that deserve attention. kudos to ron bay and the womb studios, chicago.
besos, grench
