After spending five years in the army, I came home to Manchester.
I formed my first band, The Wanderers, in 1982 with some mates from Salford. We did a studio session in late 1982 at Spirit Studios Manchester, Where we recorded an EP the A side of which was “Maybe Tomorrow”.
The band split in late 1983, as bands do, due to family commitments.
I then went on to do part time gigs with a band called Sounds Familiar, this went on for a couple of years, but I wanted more.
So I went solo, gigging in the pubs and clubs around Manchester, Trying hard but not really getting anywhere. A job came up with a mate of mine to become a Sound Engineer so I thought “A change is as good as a rest” and took it.
I then became sound engineer for a female rock singer called Rita Ski, and it was while working for her that I ended up working with the likes of Rob Harper and Hitchcock Railway & The Kid (Darren Harper), (Bobby Ball’s Sons), and Frank “Foo Foo” Lammar.
Having learned a lot I got back to singing, Not only around the Manchester area but Yorkshire, Cumbria, Sussex and Essex.
In 1998 whilst on holiday in Tenerife, an opportunity came up to do my Cliff Richard show around the island. (Don’t be out when opportunity knocks, as someone once said). So I moved out there and for a year, toured round the south of the island doing three shows a night in some places.
Three hours work a night and all the sunshine you can handle during the day, getting a tan on the beach. A rough Job but someone has to do it!!!
This is also where I got my first taste of scuba diving, my second favourite pass time.
But all good things come to an end, my partner became ill and so it was home to Sunny Manchester once more, Back on the Northern Club Circuit, Manchester, Yorkshire, and Cumbria.
I also set up my own studio at home so that I can a) make my own backing tracks, and b) record my own albums. It’s a good place to practice as well, If the neighbours ain’t deaf they soon will be.

On Monday 4th June 2007 between 1.30pm and 3.45pm a rehearsal for Liverpool’s Big Sing will be held at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral. Thirteen schools from Merseyside will be represented by their choirs to sing a new charity song called Warchild.
The song Warchild originally written by musician /actor Chris O’Neill, from the award winning film Backbeat, where he played the part of George Harrison. After seeing the plight of starving children shown on the ITV programme This Morning, when they were raising awareness for the charity Warchild.
The new recording will be available for a very small charge on download from www.indiestore.com/chrisoneill. For every £40 pounds made from these proceeds, incredibly, we can feed a child for a whole year who has been orphaned by Aids in Africa! A very small price to pay to save a child’s life. Peace and love to you all Chris.
