About me:

Congrats! You are a Dave Matthews Band NERD! You eat, breathe, and drink DMB. You've seen at least 10-20 concerts, met a band member or two, and trade their live concerts on CD-R. You rule, and know what music should sound like. As a fan, I can recommend the Dave Matthews Band's first live concert video (at least legitimate that I know of) if only to see them perform some of their finest hits and more well-known stuff, and for the fantastic rarities and little unexpected delights that come up. But there may be some who might want to check out the video, or one of their videos, that aren't very big fans, who may only be familiar with one or two songs off the radio. From there one might want to check it out just to see how the songs are performed live. But on this side there's stuff to recommend too. So really, Listener Supported is a video for both sides, the hardcore fan and the casual fan of music, chiefly rock.....

But one of the wonderful things about the Dave Matthews Band is how it isn't easily classifiable as just 'rock'- two out of five of the members of the band play instruments that one rarely finds in rock groups (a horn section is slightly more common, but a string section definitely isn't). The mix of variety then comes to play with many of the songs that are lesser known, and with the better known, and it turns out to be in general a great concert. Some of my favorites from the show were 'Too Much', 'Two Step', 'Stay (Wasting Time)', the opening number 'Pantala Naga Pampa', and the encore of a song that's been covered by many bands over time- All Along the Watchtower- but not usually with this much energy and with equal excitement from the audience. Other little bits like 'Jimi Thing' and '#40' might strike some viewers and listeners as well. With a very professional shooting of the concert, and seeing a band right after releasing their third album (after Before These Crowded Streets I think) totally in tune with what they have to do for the whole audience is exhilarating.

With the release of their latest album “Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King” they deliver the classic DMB sound, while paying tribute to their fallen band mate “Grux” (LeRoi Moore- Saxophone) in what is unquestionably their best studio album in years. With a mix of down tempo easy jams, and uptempo frenetic party starting tunes, this album delivers the best of all sides of DMB in a tightly wrapped package.
This album marks the joining of some new musicians, and the return of some old friends. Jeff Coffin sits in on saxophone with the passing of LeRoi Moore, and holds his own, maintaining the complimentary wails that fans have come to know and love. Rashawn Ross plays trumpet, most noticeably on the second track “Shake Me Like a Monkey” which starts with strong horns, which continue throughout the song.

Big Whiskey Cover Art:Tim Reynolds rejoins the group after previous studio and live appearances with Dave and DMB to wail on the electric guitar for Big Whiskey, most notably with a solo on the track “Why I Am”. As always Tim brings heavy hitting electric riffs that compliment the upbeat and sometimes wild pace of this album. Also joining the band on Big Whiskey and The Groo Grux King is Danny Barnes on the Banjo.

The entire album deserves multiple listens, and is an amazing piece of creative work. The soulful, and spirited compilation of tracks are the most fitting tribute possible to a fallen friend and band mate. Additionally, this album is without question one of the best they have ever produced, and is by far the best since some of their earlier work. Overall, I give it an A/A+ and highly recommend it to anyone!!

Who I'd like to meet:

Never knew Leroi Moore personally but I felt as though I did through his sultry sounds on the saxophone. A truly gifted musician was taken away from us too soon. I am at lost for words as I am still in shock over this terrible tragedy. Thank you Mr. Moore for all of the memories you have given us. You will never be forgotten
