Heroes
I grew up weird so I'm weird now, I don't have any "HEROES" per say, just people I look up to, people I think set a standard of Achievement, so who are these BAD MOTHAFUCKAS in no particular order:
Napoleon Hill, Ghandi, Lloyd Irvin, Pat Tray, Matt Thornton, Martin Luther King jr, Erik Paulson, Wanderle Silva, Fedor Emelianenko, Pedro Rizzo, BJ Penn, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira One thing I've learned from them is to OVERCOME, PUSH, DRIVE, IMPROVE
I just like to be active physiclly and mentally. I enjoy fine dining (giant steaks), good conversation (dirty jokes, things unPC, philosphy, cartoon trivia, and how they kept tricking MR T on the A-Team so they could get him on a plane, and y the van never had any bullet holes in it at the end), spending time with loved ones (my computer, tv, and cable modem, oh and my families, the crazy ones I've been adopted into), and sharing warm moments with friends (boxing, kickboxing, nhb, wrestling, trying to choke each other, drinking, embarissing one another in public, yelling "I'm RICK JAMES BITCH" (sometimes seperate, sometimes all at the same time) )
My Martial Arts, and Personal Training Website is WWW.DC-ATHLETE.COM
If i look familiar you might have seen me fight in Richmond or Va Beach in King of the Ring, Excalibur, Combat Sports Challenge, WKA nationals, Grapplers Quest, Tap Factor, NAGA, or possibly a tv commercial if you stay up waaaay to late and watch public access (I don't know why you would).
A QUICK NOTE/MINI FAQ I get A LOT of questions
uhhh I'm Dave
I've done a bunch of different styles of training but right now I'm focusing on the fundamentals because I've just started at a new gym and I've got a sweet new job thats lets me train at close to the level i want (the level i want is full time, the previous job left no time)
Styles I'm training in:
The MAGIC FOUR - What I call the fundamental styles that will teach you what you need to win in MOST unarmed situations. If you look at any champ in the individual sports, or think about a traditional Martial Artist who excels above all the others and he'll usually have one of the styles mentioned below in his background a la Bruce Lee, he was an amature boxer before he came over here
1) Western Boxing - great head movement, ring control, punching, working combinations off angles and endurance. The highest form of boxing is hitting without getting hit. 2) Muay Thai or Thai Boxing for the American/layman - incredible conditioning, powerful knees, kicks, elbows and punches, straight up in your face I'm a psycho and I'll die right now kind of style (the national sport of Thailand (I gotta go there) a watered down version is K1 on ESPN and PPV 3) Wrestling (Freestyle/Greco Roman) - great endurance once again, the ablity to slam someone on the ground (having someone pick you up in the air is one of the WORST feelings cause you know you just screwed up and something bad's about to happen if u don't do something quick), and the ability to stay on top and make people very uncomfortable 4) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / Submission wrestling think full body mercy with or without a karate uniform on, the ability to apply submissions like, neck cranks, armlocks, leglocks, and chokes from virtually any positon including flat on your back (I'm currently a member of Team Lloyd Irvin www.teamlloydirvin.com
I also train in Combat Submission Wrestling a style that encompasses all of the above styles into a Mixed Martial Art system (think the Ultimate fighting Championship, Pride FC, Shoot, or Rings) along with several others. (go to www.erikpaulson.com for more info on that)
Why do i do all this?
Because I have to compete. I have to know how good I am, and if I'm doing it right, the ring/mat/cage is the only lab i know of where you can test that against someone with cruel intentions toward you, plenty of time to get ready, and see who comes out on top in a fair one on one type of deal.
Who I'd like to meet: Wanderlie Silva, Bas Rutten, Mirko Cro Cop, Optimus Prime, Fedor Emelianenko, Jeremy Horn, Mayhem Miller, Sean Sherk, and anyone esle who likes to punch, kick, wrestle, and throw people.
Oh and I guess I'll associate with unfamous people (like 99.9% of the people I know) but you have to be cool and have skills, like ninja skills, bow hunting skills, or computer hacking skills (or hot chix) or someone who gets a laugh out of this
