About me:
Hello! I am a stand-up comic, originally from Preston, which is home to both the parched-pea, and the second largest bus garage in Europe. FACT!
In 2009 I have won the Comedy Cafe New Act Night, the Oxford Fringe New Act of the Year Award, Funhouse Comedy's 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' gong show as well as the Stand Up And Coming Gong Show. My Art of Comedy workshop was voted the best show at the Hull Comedy Festival
I have been a finalist at the Big Big New Act of the Year comp, a Edinburgh semi-finalist at So You Think You're Funny and a Quarter-finalist at The New Act of the Year comp.
I have appeared at the renowned Spank shows in the Edinburgh fest, compered various gigs/corporates/charity events as well as working as a TV warm up artist for series such as the live Friday night show, Gordon Ramsay's Cookalong Live.
My comedy writing/directing credits include award winning short films such as "Late Night Phone In", award winning virals such as "Beat the Papers" and groundbreaking daily Podcasts for the BFI London Film Festival. My most recent short recently screened at the Opening Night Gala of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, Florida.
2009 saw me perform my first solo hour show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. 'Wanchorman: Adventures In Telly Land' became a sell out show for the full festival run and will be appearing across the country throughout the year. I also performed 'North/South Divide' with Charlie Talbot every lunchtime, as well as compering 'The Puppet Grinder Cabaret' nightly at the Assembly rooms at 8.30 pm.
EDINBURGH REVIEWS
WANCHORMAN: ADVENTURES IN TELLY LAND
Steve Bennett – Chortle (Aug 09)
A thoroughly entertaining debut – thanks to Gibsons warmly self-deprecating wit and a surfeit of cheery enthusiasm. This engaging Preston-based stand-up tries to get through a checklist of things all the acclaimed Edinburgh shows seem to have. Gags are top of the list ... and his quip about dating two anorexics should rightly have made the shortlist for best joke on the Fringe.
Slightly longer routines provide him more scope for his playful wit. This is a solid show from an assured performer whom it’s hard to dislike.
Three Weeks – (Aug 09)
Preston-based Dave Gibson does bear a passing resemblance to Will Ferrell and sports a Ron Burgundy-esque drop-handlebar and suit, but it's all essentially a gimmick to bring the punters in, which it does; the punters are biting and the venue's barely big enough for Gibson's personality, let alone a crowd. The elements of conventional stand-up are sound, his treatment of hecklers a delight and the multimedia a winning highlight.
Edfringe – (Aug 09)
Confident, original and funny. Expecting to see him at bigger and better things in the future.
Pick of the festival:-
Rick Edwards – T4 Edinburgh Special (Aug 09) “I actually laughed till I cried....”
Ali McGregor – Late Night Variety Night (Aug 09) “My favourite mustachio'd comic....”
CHARLIE TALBOT AND DAVE GIBSON'S NORTH SOUTH DIVIDE
Three Weeks – Aug 09
Two rather talented, charismatic young comics. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. The material and delivery was good, and the chemistry and banter between the two was the best I've seen on the Free Fringe by a long way.
Whats On Stage – (Aug 09)
It’s a valiant comic who opts to entertain people for free at midday, but a heckler in the back row and loud noises from the Grassmarket outside threaten disruption. The entertainers seize on both challenges with a gleeful glint in the eye. Engaging stuff, delivered in casual style with a fair amount of combative backchat. A comedy workout to set up both audience and performers for the rest of the festival day. Bargain.
Edfringe – (Aug 09)
One of the funniest things I've seen this year! Three words, GO SEE THEM!....
Really good fun, lots of laughs and highly recommended....
Simply hilarious! Dave Gibson in particular is an up and coming talent that i am sure will be huge in the not too distant future! Snappy, with a warmth and great rapport with the audience. An excellent show....
This was the best thing that I saw at the festival this year. I am sure that we will see more of this pair - I certainly hope so....
