   About John David Gravis
I'm a native Texan, performing as a solo artist and with the bands "Whiskey Dream" & "Cactus Rose" throughout Texas beginning in the mid 1970's, and writing / recording jingles for local businesses. Currently an independent artist, most recent CD released: "Shadow of the Mountain". In addition to composing original songs, my wife Cindy and I love to perform traditional American / Irish / Celtic songs. When I'm not busy writing, playing or singing I work as a software developer / consultant. Influences and favorites include Loudon Wainwright III, Stephen Foster, Guy Clark, Connie Dover, Julie Fowlis, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Gordon Lightfoot, Kate Wolf, The Rankin Family, The Duhks, Stephen Fromholz, Arcady, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Kirjava Lintu, Jill Sobule.

Hey Dave.  Not a dobro, just an acoustic guitar, tuned open D, with glass slide.  I used my Yamaha on all the recordings, but I have an Epiphone acoustic set up now for slide work.  Hope all's going well in Austin.,  happy Thanksgiving.

Hiding Time is just beautiful. Your voice and the gentle space inside the song and the pared backness of it all.  Thankyou for the listen just then and also for your kind words:) You are a fine musician and a true natural mr Gravis.

Dear Friends,

this is just a quick note to let you know that this is the last chance to get a physical copy of my first album "Pretty Boys and Ugly Girls".

I'm going to release my new album this fall (subscribe to my blog if you want to be informed!) and the first one will then be only available as a download version.

So if you prefer a proper CD - like I do! - a record you can really hold in your hands, with all the artwork and stuff - this is your chance! :-)

Grab your hard copy of "Pretty Boys and Ugly Girls" now on CD Baby while stocks last!

Wishing you all the best,
Agnes

Hey Dave.  I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, so now I'm online and listening to your songs.  It's been a rough week, with the death of Mary Travers I found I was greatly affected, similar to when John Lennon died.  Like losing a life long friend who influenced not only my music but my life.  Mary Travers was a role model for helping others obtain freedom and justice, very risky in 1963 when people could loose their careers, be jailed, or be killed for standing up like PPM did in the Washington Freedom march... She lived a rich life beyond the materialistric plane.  It's hard to find heros today....

Thanks for you help in my recording project.  Guess what? I now have a friend who plays mandolin sitting in with me sometimes.  sounds really great, acoustic guitar and mandolin.  Talk to you later.

Dave--- That is Josh with the wine glass in our kitchen last Christmas-- I think he and I were making Pasta that day-- (I mean making pasta---something I only do a couple of times a year because I am lazy). We tend to get together and cook-- it is a competitive father son bonding thing. That and Rebecca gets aggravated if we pull out the instruments and play all day long--another good competitive bonding thing.

Dave--- you have turned into an excellent poet. Your songs are lyrically very strong.
