GeneralI play the sax, and I love all kinds of music, especially jazz and world music. Perhaps my favorite artist of all time is Louis Armstrong. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Brazilian stuff, and downloading cheap mp3s from allofmp3.com, a russian site that is ridiculously cheap.

I like drinking and hanging out with friends. I love traveling, games and movies of course. I enjoy sports, and I'm looking for a good opportunity to play soccer or ultimate here in NYC.
MusicI listen to music constantly, from dawn to dusk. Although I listen to everything except Easy-Listening/Smooth-Jazz, my favorite genres these days are Jazz, World Music, and Electronic Music.

Lately I've been listening to: Cocteau Twins, Vanessa da Mata, Brazilian Girls, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Julieta Venegas, The Postal Service, Galactic, Immortal Technique, and Monster Magnet.

I play the saxaphone, and I enjoy playing with a little jazz combo when possible. I haven't been playing much lately, so unfortunately my skills have eroded a bit. If you live near me and you'd like to get together and jam, let me know!!! I also sing (baritone), and I enjoy singing classical/church music type stuff.

imogen heap - hide and seek

..

nelly furtado ft puppet timbaland - promiscuous

..

royksopp - remind me

..

bjork - the hunter

..
MoviesI like movies that either have some interesting philosophical or factual content (like documentaries or historical movies), or have nice cinematography/artistic elements and have good acting. Dustin Hoffman is my favorite actor, for his great versatility. Compare Hook, Rain Man, Midnight Cowboy and Wag the Dog. Incredible! Favorite movies: Shawshank Redemption, Requiem for a Dream, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Grave of Fireflies, Loose Change, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Memento, American Beauty, 3 Kings, Gandhi, Amelie, American History X, Saving Private Ryan, Sleeper, Lola rennt, Rain Man, Central do Brasil, Hoop Dreams, The Corporation, The Power of Community
TelevisionI don't have a TV. Boo-yah!!! There are a few shows I like (The Daily Show, Scrubs, Simpsons, Family Guy, Seinfeld), but the internet and video games are so much more fun! I like to participate.
BooksPop science books, like The Selfish Gene, the Bell Curve, and the Mismeasure of Man. I also like historical biographies, such as Wild Swans, Sacred Willow, and the Autobiography of Malcom X. My basic philosophical orientation to live is grounded in some of Nietzsche's ideas, and I read through his Gay Science and Human, All Too Human on a regular basis.
HeroesMalcom X. Such an amazing orator...

   Dave's Blurbs
About me:
I grew up on Mercer Island, a suburb of Seattle where it is illegal to have anything interesting, like a movie theater or a club. Thank god for the Roanoke, built in 1914, which is protected by a grandfather clause.

I've been traveling around a lot in the last few years, living in different parts of the world. I spent a little over a year in Osaka, Japan, and then 2 years in Paris. I'm currently living at Columbia's I. House, which is fun because there are students from all over.

As fun and interesting as it has been to see the world, I'm glad to settle down a bit for 5 years here in NYC, doing my PhD at Columbia in social psychology. Lately I've been dancing a lot -- latin every monday, swing every thursday, and often some misc dance club on the weekend. It's soooooo much more fun to dance with someone! Regular dancing is fun and all, but it just doesn't compare to the connection you get with social dancing.

Check out my professional homepage at http://davidhardisty.info
Who I'd like to meet:
Among the living -- Carlos Ghosn, Immortal Technique, Noam Chomsky, Tom Stoppard, Wynton Marsalis, Dustin Hoffman... and of course all the mega famous people of the world such as Bill Gates and the Dali Lama.

Have fun in Paris tomorrow, that's gotta be so much fun! Best of luck, I can't decide whether to root for the snobby French or the cheating Italians.
