On these recordings, I’ve managed to get a group of people together that is my dream line up. All of these guys have been playing in successful bands for years and all are good friends. To get them in the studio is great fun too and it produces a sounds like nothing else.
Dave Maton: Vocals, rhythm guitar.
Michael Potter: Lead guitar.
Kevin Sheehy: Bass, mando.
Craig "Max" Rodda: Drums.
Other fine guest musos include; Brigette McDowell (Range Rovers on Violin) Terry Nicholas (Flaming Sambucas on Keyboards) Rene Donaghey (The Beggars vocals on “The Hardest Times”)
Engineered and recorded by Dave Lokan, Big Sound.
Influences
Welcome to my site and I hope you’ve had a chance to listen to a few tracks. After playing in bands for the last 20 years and thought it was time I recorded some of my own stuff, so here it is. The great thing about recording this stuff is the chance to get the best musos I’d ever worked with to play on it.
Whenever we had a great gig with someone I’d always have in the back of my mind that Id like to record with them at some stage – and that’s exactly what I did. It was a bonus that all of them had a real feel for country and folk music, and that came through in the mando, tele, double bass and drums. The other approach I took was to give the guys pretty much the freedom to interpret the songs how they wanted to. I just went through the chords and melody, and after a couple of takes we basically had a record done.
Songs often turned out different to what I had imagined, but better. Quite a few of the tracks were written after a road trip across the States from San Fran to Chicago via Austin, Memphis and Nashville in late 2007 and the title track, Federal Commotion says it all. I saw some amazing bands, particularly in Austin - blues, country and rock – and I know I’ll be back to our sister city soon.
But some of the tracks are quite old. I wrote the first song on the CD “Edge of Happiness” when I was 17 living in Europe, so even from that age I loved country rock and that song just kinda wrote itself. About eight songs for the next CD are written and we’re going to start recording with the same band in a few weeks. I’m also working on a couple of short film projects so watch this space for more.
Anyway, enough of this, get back to the music and if you like what you hear, drop me a line either through MySpace or at dave@davematon.com

Earth Hour
Earth Hour is almost here again, but what do we really do to reduce our impact on the environment other than just turning off the lights for an hour each year. Check out my take on this global event.

Federal Commotion
Here's the video of the title track, Federal Commotion. There's tons of footage from my road trip from San Fran to Chicago via Vegas, Austin Memphis and Nashville.
Dead Flowers - Rolling Stones cover
A cover of one of my favourite songs from the Stones. It was written by Mick and Keith when Keith was spending a lot of time with Gram Parsons. Here's my twist on it featuring violin and guitar.
Crash and Burn - Highway Mix
This is a rocker with some great slide work from Mick. I remixed the original video to feature some great chase action.
It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
A cover of one of my favourite songs and a great Bob Dylan number. Had some help from Simon, a harp player witha style all his own.
Stand Your Ground
This is a song about not giving in, doing whats right and standing up for yourself. I like the way the song builds from one guitar to the full band. It's quite an emotional song.
Whatever happened to good old wholesome entertainment? Well we don’t know and you’re certainly not going to find it here! But if you want some nasty action, killer metal, giveaways from every band and all at a good price then SE BON KI RA has got you covered.
Heavy metal heavyweights Recoil from NSW are getting around the country at the moment introducing Australian metal fans to their brand of nastiness on the back of their powerful new release The Will To Sin. The boys will be reporting for duty at Enigma on Saturday July 17th, keen to show us their Sydney style assault, playing tracks from the new album.
Local lads Deafening Silence, In The Burial and SE BON KI RA will further strengthen the attack with a range of metal styles all from the same big happy family, making for a night of killer metal. Each of the bands will be offering merchandise giveaways at the show, so get in the pit and make some noise for your chance to pick up a shirt or CD!

The OK SLUTS hit the Adelaide Fringe! Three shows over three nights! The OK SLUTS are maverick mash-up emissaries from Alice Springs, on a quest to unpack the myths of the outback whilst unpacking their own whiteness into a controversial interactive song and dance show-bag that you can take home after and keep sucking on for weeks. With tight vocal harmonies and loose conceptual brilliance, the OK SLUTS explore genres unique to the centre such as casio gospel, wrong-country-town, desert vampire polka, hip folk fusion, indie-genous and two-thousand and eighties and have been described as something between hardplace and classic rock. Their sound is a product of taking the music of black American rap artists, passing it through tinny Holden Commodore speakers in a remote community, looping it four times around an Indigenous world view, filtering it through the complex and cynical mind of a burnt-out white Aboriginal service industry worker then adding distortion and a little bit more echo.
