Reading, watching DVDs, listening to CDs, fun programs, magazines, asking questions, downloading ebooks, genealogy and local history research; and meeting new people.
Music
I own and loan all kinds - country, rock, punk, classical, r&b, celtic, musicals, jazz, rap, soundtracks, the blues... the list goes on and on!
Movies
I've got an awesome selection of DVDs and videos, and I'm willing to loan those out, too. My favorites are the new releases - I get those as soon as they come out, just like the video stores - except mine can be borrowed for free!
Television
I have so many television shows available on DVD that it would take years to watch them all. My favorites are Cheers, the Sopranos, the Brady Bunch... well, I can't even choose my favorites because I have so many. You should come and see my selection because I'm willing to share those, too!
Books
I have more than 250,000 items to choose from - impressive! I can't say that I've read every single one of them, but I know that if the wonderful librarians selected them to be on the shelves, then they are worth a look. I have to admit, I love the cookbooks the best.
Heroes
Melvil Dewey, Andrew Carnegie, Clarissa Cook, Alice French, and the citizens of Davenport for passing the referendum so that I could get two new libraries!
Who I'd like to meet: I may be over 100 years old, but I'm just as important today as I was 100 years ago. I've seen a lot of things, and have undergone many changes... some people say, "You sure wouldn't know the Davenport Public Library these days. It's so fun and exciting." That's me, fun and exciting! I offer so many things to so many different people - materials, programs, events, classes - all free! My mission is to connect a diverse community to resources that inform, enrich, entertain and educate.

"Bubble Time?" The children grew more amazed with each minute.
"Bubble Time. Up till now, your clocks ticked to the rhythm of your planet revolving around your sun. But now you've been aligned to the heartbeat of the Universe. The clock in the bubble ticks in time to the twinkle of the stars. In the Universe there really isn't any time at all, so we can go as slowly as we want or as quickly as we please! We can go faster or slower than Earth time."
"We can travel in and out of the seasons, if we want! Summer? Why, just think about it! Winter? Feel the frost bite your nose! Fall? You're a leaf of red and gold, swirling and floating through the autumn air. It's all up to you. It depends on how you feel inside! Imagine! There are no boundaries! No limits! You can go where your imagination will take you!"
The Professor turned to his pipe. "Now just sit down and make yourselves comfortable," he said over his shoulder.
"Where do we sit, Professor?" asked Ivy.
"Anywhere you'd like! Just trust yourself and the seat will be there for you. "
"Stars? We're made of stars? Is Ziggy?" Ivy was star struck.
"Are you made of stars, Professor Angelicus?" asked Zak. "Is Quantia?"
"Absolutely. Nothing more and nothing less," the professor affirmed. "The iron in your blood, the calcium in your bones...everything. Even the tiniest drop of water shining on a spider's web is stardust and starlight. All living things are related. We're all brothers and sisters."
He pointed out toward the silent brilliance in space, his large eyes clear and luminescent. "We were all created in the intergalactic clouds that came from the first great breath of life. Some call it the Essence of God."
Ziggy wagged his tail and his eyes sparkled. He understood what the professor was saying...
