Bio
.. Before I go on about me, here are some details on the songs: .. .. Saturday Street (Terry Bradford / David Wayman)1997 .. .. A song we wrote for "Saturday Street" the second "Black Taxi" CD. It's a song about a community (the old world) were everyone lives within it's fabric. I thought Terry wrote a wonderful lyric. Leah Cotterell wanted it to sound like a hymn, originally it was faster. The players: Gerry Pantazis-drums; Jack Pantazis-guitar; Enio Pozzebon-piano; David Rosa-bass; Phil Carroll-accordion ; Steve Joyce-Rhythm guitar, keyboards; Leah Cotterell-vocal; April Ronsisvalle, Yasmin Shoobridge, Rachael Kennedy - bvocal .. Available through www.roundrecords.com.au .. .. .. Traffic Jam(Terry Bradford / David Wayman)1996 .. .. A song from the first "Black Taxi" CD "Taken For A Ride". We wrote this actually in 1980 but it didn't see the light of day until sixteen years later. The players: Gerry Pantazis-drums; Jack Pantazis-guitar; Enio Pozzebon-piano; David Rosa-bass; April Ronsisvalle-lead vocal ; Leah Cotterell-bvocal; Yasmin Shoobridge-bvocal; Craig Baird-vibraphone .. Available through www.roundrecords.com.au .. .. .. Desire (Rick Pilskans / David Wayman) 2006 .. .. A song written for "The Minotaurs Lament" by "Dark Waters Tango" but ironically written as a tango but played as a bosa. Pearl Black liked it better that way and we all agreed. Rick Pilskans is a fine songwriter and this was our first song together, he wrote a great lyric! The players: Marcel Yammouni-electric guitar; Enio Pozzebon-piano; James Clark-bass; Pearl Black-vocal; Phil Carroll-flute; Dave Wayman-accoustic guitar .. Available through Indie CD..s .. HYPERLINK "http://www.islandwebs.com.au/applications/search/search_result.asp?"ItemID= 698 .. .. .. Two Roads Meet (Rachael Kennedy / David Wayman) 1999 .. .. Rachael asked me to produce and help her write a country/pop cross over CD "City Girls". this is one of the songs from it. Great fun to do it and again working with fabulous musicians. The players: Ed Bates-slide guitar;James Black-piano, organ, electric guitar; James Clark-bass; Bradley Pollain-drums; Rachael Kennedy-vocal; Dave Wayman-accoustic guitar; Paul Wookey-bvocals .. .. ..All songs are recorded and mixed by the incredible James Clark .. .. .. Now all about me: .. .. David Wayman was born in and has worked mostly from Melbourne, Australia. Over his career he has been a songwriter, performing artist, lyricist, lecturer in songwriting, a music teacher, CD producer, an MC, and even done small parts in films and television. With his songwriting he has written across many styles both by himself and with quite a number of co-writers. David has written for cabaret acts, radio and TV ads, folk acts, poetry bands, country singers, swing /jazz groups, tango bands, children and adult musicals and rock groups. .. .. The Sixties .. .. David loved the idea of being a songwriter and songwriting since he was very young and was always watching movies and reading about it. In his mid teens after starting to learn guitar he was ready to become a great songwriter. Ha Ha. Well some 200 very ordinary songs later he finally started to get the idea of what it takes and began to write some decent songs (a slow learner). .. .. The Seventies .. .. David then joined his first band and wrote instrumentals and songs for the group "Poor Tom's Poetry Band" in the early 1970's. This group played a lot of major venues around Melbourne including Sunbury 1974 Pop Festival and also introduced Dave to recording, one of his songs "I'll Travel With You" being used on a Christian television Ad. Then he formed and wrote for the zany theatre restaurant based duo "Cool Water" with Anthony Leonard which turned into the influential cult band "Yasmin and the Tea Leaves". .. .. The Eighties .. .. In 1980 "Yasmin and the Tea Leaves" recorded their first album "Yasmin and the Tea Leaves" and received great reviews from Rolling Stone and other music magazines. In the 1980's David started to co-write with Terry Bradford and also Steve Dillon for pop rock bands. From 1983 after the breakup of "Yasmin and the Tea Leaves", David started performing solo and covering for the first time other..s songs playing and studying some great songwriting; Tom Waits, Randy Newman, Lennon/ MacCartney, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell etc. .. .. The Nineties .. .. In the early 1990's wrote and scripted a children..s musical called ..The Detectives.. which was performed at a number of state schools. 1994 Dillon/Wayman worked on and produced a full scale musical called "Atlantis" co-written with Steve Paix, Victor Kazan and Kevin Purcell. .. At the end of 1995 Bradford/Wayman produced and wrote the songs for a group of jazz singers and musicians that they put together and called the project "Black Taxi". ..Traffic Jam.. a Wayman/Bradford song, performed by Black Taxi from their CD "Taken For A Ride", was the most performed / played song of 1996 on the national ABC network, and another Black Taxi song ..Shoes.. from the second Black Taxi CD "Saturday Street" was on the ABC most played CD of 1998. .. .. The Naughties .. .. In 2000 he started writing songs with another major collaborator Sarah CowanIn 2004 Ian McNamara included ..The Land That We Love.. another Wayman/Bradford song on the" Australia All Over", CD. This song was originally written for a television Ad for Beechworth Bakeries, this Ad was on high rotation for over two years. .. In the last six years David has written songs for a Melbourne Comedy festival show with Josephine Fisher, worked and co-written on two CD's with Paul Wookey, co-written a CD for country singer Rachael Kennedy, and co-written songs on guitarist Shannon Bourne's first CD, and co-written songs with Annie Kennedy for her debut CD ..Life After Chocolate.., as well as co-writing a tango CD called ..The Minotaur..s Lament.. with accordionist Phil Carroll for the band "Dark Waters Tango". .. ..
