Bio
Album: 6 miles east of here 5 miles north of nowhere My debut solo album is distributed by Cargo and came out winter 2010. If you want to get copies direct go to www.wearitwellrecords.co.uk For those of you living in the Bristol area the album is now on sale at Rise record shop on Queens Road. I was first aware of the power of music in 1969, a cousin of mine used to babysit us and we would watch him fondle his girlfriend to the sound of Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze. This had a profound effect on me. ....What followed was compulsive buying of glam rock singles, an unnatural fascination (for a boy)with hairstyles and clothing, regularly getting beaten up for looking like a freak (that only stopped in 1997!) and supposedly being educated by hippies on the likes of proper music (progrock). Naturally the next musical wow was punk rock, which just blew me away and got me scribbling words and having dreams of John Peel one day playing a song I had written. ....In 1978 I bought my first guitar and have never looked back, I hasten to add I have not gone forward too much either but hey lets keep this positive! Bristol was a strange place back then, 30 punks, a few bars where you could drink and not get beaten up, the Dug Out club, going to three gigs a week at the Lacarno, buying clothes at Paradise Garage. ....Although everything seemed cold and black and white there was this glowing distorted guitar energy. I think the late 70s early 80s was this amazing time when anything went. The idea that you could listen to Grandmaster Flash, Kraftwerk, Joy Division, The Jam, and Abba and that no one worried if it was hip or cool was liberating - but that was back in the day before 'Lifestyles' were invented. ....During all this excitment I formed a band, The Brilliant Corners. I was writing 5 songs a day, myself and bass player Chris had this vision of independence and DIY. Somehow, mainly through enthusiasm and hard work we put out records, toured, and lived out dreams. I got to hear myself on John Peel and had a great time for all of the 80s. During the 90s I spent time out playing records in clubs, and having a ball. I used to DJ at this night called the Trip, for five years I dont think I slept at weekends. Eventually I formed the Experimental Pop Band (you can get a detailed biog on the EPB site). Having been in EPB for over a decade I decided that I might want to put some solo work out -
