Mostly, I'm just an entertainment junkie: literature, film, music, comic books and video games. I loves me a good story, good artwork, great design...the medium doesn't matter. That's why I've got such a huge list of favorite movies, authors, etc. It doesn't matter if it's a high-octane action flick or a brooding arthouse drama -- if it does what it sets out to do, and it does it well, then I'm in.
Good design. There's nothing better to me than a good movie, book, or comic wrapped in a well-designed package. Style and substance. Form and Content. That's the shit.
The other biggest thing in my life is my son, Jack. He's 7, and he's the coolest kid I know.

I'm a writer, designer, and a filmmaker. With my co-writer/co-director Jeremy Rogers, we made our first original short film, BAD HABITS. We won a REMI AWARD from the Houston Worldfest Film Festival, and the film also screened at the 2007 Sacramento International Film Festival in March.BAD HABITS was nominated for two awards at the SIFF, and I'm pleased to announce that Jack Sway WON a Best Actor award for his perfomance in BAD HABITS!
We've also completed our second short film, written by me and directed by Jeremy Rogers. Starring Bill Billions and Nikolas Ladimer, THE LONG ROAD is a moody character piece about two southern brothers who have traveled to Los Angeles to enact revenge on their estranged father.
THE LONG ROAD is the first entry of a short film anthology from HFF entitled, "Whiskey, Gun, Cigarette." The WGC series is an ultra-low budget anthology thematically linked with the title props. Beyond that, everything is up to the imagination. HFF is currently accepting submissions for WGC scripts, and we're also developing two more films for the series that we hope to produce this year. We have also just learned that THE LONG ROAD has been officially accepted into the FAIF-AICAA International Film Festival in Hollywood!
We've also recently wrapped our third project, THE HOLLYWOOD INFORMANT, a black-and-white 1920's noir thriller, which was produced in association with The Geeworld Studios. Jeremy Rogers and I directed and produced THI, and it's currently in post-production. We're thrilled with the footage we got. This project marks a distinct evolution for us as directors.
Also, we're developing a new media project called WORMWOOD. It's a serialized, supernatural mystery, and we are currently casting for voice actors. The Wormwood Mystery Podcast is set to launch in July 2007. Stay tuned for more information!
To handle all of our productions, I co-founded a production company, Habit Forming Films, LLC. Check us out at habitformingfilms.com. It's the true realization of a dream, and now we're hard at work on various future projects in various media.
Most of my writing and various other projects are currently housed at laughingmadscribes.com, a website we've been running for about 4-5 years.
As you may or may not know, I turned twenty-five the other day. Instead of gifts this year, I'm asking everyone to join my Email List on www. jjhebert. net. Unconventional, my newest novel, will be published by Mindstir Media later this year, and joining the Email List will ensure that you receive updates regarding my book release, contests, giveaways, and more.
"Unconventional is a wonderful story full of heart, humor, and what it means to truly be successful. An A+ novel for the keeper shelf. " - Gemma Halliday, award-winning author
