What I'm listening to right now probably is impossible to pin down because I'm generally listening to an iPod with 7,000 songs on it set to "Shuffle Songs". As far as bassists, I am really influenced by disciplined bassists that have a solid tone, support the song with some embellishment, and play for the song and singer. Musically, I respect my elders and dig new music all the same.
Ayn Rand, Mitch Albom, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Flannery O'Connor, Mencken, Adam Smith, Benjamin Graham, Niccolo Machiavelli, any biography or nonfiction by Ron Chernow, Bob Woodward, The Bible
About me: Bassist in Oklahoma City, OK. An example of my bass playing is on this site right now (produced by Mitch Bell). I am from Oklahoma City but have lived in TN, NY, and PA. I love my family and friends. Right now I play most weeks at Henderson Hills in Edmond, with the Kacia Buckley Band, and recording at the Music Group with LG.
Better yet, here's a gig to die for: you do the gig for free because your close friend, who now needs a sub, had volunteered to play it for free to help HIS friend out, the client doesn't want amps on stage, everyone has to share a mix with the tone-deaf vocalist, and two of the floor wedges are blown.
Crazy, but that's the world I'm living in right now. I dunno how Derek Smalls got his gig, but I'm sure it went something like "...Well, you're not so good on guitar, but we do need a bassist..."
hey man! how's oklahoma? and the fam? yea, american idol was a trip. they said 'great voice, but the competition is fierce this year' it was just 2 random people who judged for the 1st round. they had 12 tables set up with 2 judges at each one and you went in groups of 4 people to get judged. each person got 15 to 20 seconds to sing. it was crazy. but i had fun
My man, I've been praying for you! I'm glad to hear everything’s working out for you!!! Congrats on the new home- Yukon is one of the greatest places to live!!!
Yeah man I'm better now. Sorry I missed the session the other day with ya, I was a little detained at the hospital. I'm good though, must of had an angel with me in the car, if you saw my car you would have to agree!
You see that is why it's so hard to finish! Work gave me the promotion back in December so the money came before the degree. I know in two years I'll go back from my graduate degree...I'm thinking NYU. Get out of the state for a few years.
I'll graduate in 3 weeks. Thank God. I'm going to Bridgeway these days & I love it. Outside of work not much is going on. This week I celebrated my 29th birthday and started living my 30th year of life. So far it's stressful but I'm looking foward to summer. Europe here I come!
