History: David Andrews grew up in the north of England as the son of a miner and of a Scottish 'immigrant' mother. Music has been a part of his life for as long as he has been alive, and his past includes a stint or two in some very odd groupings of people making music together. Now, as a 46 year old folk-singer living and working in the wild South-East of Finland, he is mainly employed in the field of his Master of Education degree: educational psychology.
Previous bands: Network/Fully Comprehensive (guitar, vocal); Josiah Steel (guitar, vocal); The Purple Aeroplanes (guitar, vocal); Full Circle (bass, vocal); Borman-Andrews (guitar, vocal; with Tuomo Borman, one of Finland's top session guitarists, who played acoustic guitar on some of the songs on his work-in-progress CD); The Blue Monsters (drums, vocal); He bezzed about with a few other bands too, and 'was' a few bands himself (couldn't be arsed to find others to play in them) like The Mass Bangies, Sparepart Invention (sorry Fairports!), The Northern Rhythm Section to name but a few.
Produced demo/final recordings for: Jeffrizovottly (Barnsley punk band); Domestica (Kotka punk band); Guava (Kotka pop band), Toukola People's College Youth Theatre (theatre arts training school).
Guestings: Buffalo Brothers 'Lifeblood'; Various artists 'A Season Of Changes' (The Autism Awareness Album); Domestica demo version of a song with a very naughty one-word name.
This is the video that David's friend Paul Bourgeois made for his song, 'I Go Down'. The video artwork is Paul's copyright, and the song copyright is David's.
As you can see from our picture that our heads have grown. It really hurt.
I want the world to know that you are The Folk Doctor who labled us as "Neo-Folk" which does not mean we cannot play blues, rock or metal when we want. There is a cool picture of you with your electric mandolin (Talk about Neo-Folk, perhaps you got us confused with yourself) which is in The Second Order pics.
David Andrews - David is a fantastic musician, and for a musician I will forgive a lot. He was one of the first people I met when I moved to Finland. He "taught me the keys".
What is there to forgive and why? Well, David is "unique". He has his "problems with people, places and things", as was said of Lenny Breau. As for forgiveness, I have to forgive myself for being me, because David's problems are mine. David struggles with the exact same things we all struggle with, and sometimes we overcome them, and sometimes we don't - and sometimes we transform our lives into something that other people can't recognize. And it is that recognition that David and I are the same that makes me so angry.
And I can't be angry with myself, can I? So I "learn to love with hate and hate with love" as The Last Poets say.
Paul Bourgeois (The Other Blue Monster)
PS: I don't hate you. That's the transcendent allegorical poetical hate in which we see ourselves in others and... Oh, hell, man, the next evening you are free let me bring over a couple Scottish beers. We can sing traditional songs and I won't have to explain...
No, David, I would NOT impugne your mellowness. Your mellow is as magnificent as you rockadilliciousness drumming and stands for itself with power and overwhelming subtlety.
I say this because you are - for better or worse richer or poorer, circumstance not choice draws people together - one of my best friends, my musical rock. The stuff that came before is ads much a part of what we are now. Time is only an illusion to the mind as the past embeds itself in us. It all has to go out there.
If we are artists then that is why we exist. There's nothing else.
Yeah David "She has a way" is a gem of a song. I'm a sucker for trad ballads like "Banks" too. A man after my own heart, one foot in americana and the other in english folk!
Never ventured to Finland, is it a healthy circuit?
cheers Paul
Hi David,
The new album isn't completely mellow, the tracks up on my page are a bit misleading. There might be some new tracks up soon.
Stand up for your mellow-self!
Paul
David, what was all that stuff you posted somewhere "Seems like us former pop/rock writers end up mellowing out totally..." about? You are a former folk/traditional guitarist/singer who "mellowed into" a hard rock/blues drummer. A guy who can drum like you do is not ready to mellow just yet. You certainly have some issues to pound away at. I should know, being in the same band. I have enough issues to scream ou myself.
Of course it was a girl.
I hope your wrapped up warm.
It`s been cold here for a while.
So from South East Norway to South East Finland. Nice to meet you

Hi David,

Nice to meet you, have a good w/end
O-K
So sorry to hear that news - it is a hard fight - but the love you receive from your family at a time like this shows you what life is about - its about the people we love and care for that matter most - please keep in touch and thankyou for your kind words
It's good to hear from you! I'm fine. Living in Helsinki, studying, working, you know, normal things. It's been a while since I've visited Kotka. But I guess it's the same...dark, cold and windy. No, wait, that's Helsinki...
Well how the devil are you David? Wonderful to hear from you again. Just opening up your little space here and hearing What Is Real brought back so many good memories. I bet you're fluent in Finnish by now!
We'll definitely keep in touch now through the wonderful My Space! I'm now going to listen to your other songs.
Cheers
Allan
