Born on the East Coast, David Aus studied classical piano and saxophone in his youth, turning to jazz in high school. After a lengthy hiatus, he resumed playing piano in San Francisco, where, for 10 years, he performed with straight ahead jazz groups, experimental rock projects, R&B cover bands, modern dance groups, and avant-garde mixed mutimedia artists. He was an early member of funk/fusion/hip-hop JDOGS.
Since moving to Fresno, he has been active as a performer, student, educator, composer, accompanist, and enthusiast. Besides leading his own groups, he performs regularly with the Fresno Jazz Composers Orchestra, Lisa’s Big Night Out, Rumba 32. He has worked with numerous Grammy-award winning artists, including Carmen Bradford, Ray Santos, Steve Mitchell, and Oscar Hernandez. With friends Andre Bush, Gary Newmark, and Roy Carlson, he hosts a jazz jam session two Sundays a month at the Tower Mosaic in Fresno’s Tower District. He can be heard Monday and Wednesday mornings on 90.7 KFSR - Fresno (www.kfsr.org), where he is a host of morning jazz and the voice of the jazz calendar.
