I am a pickup maker and I am building my own singlecoil and humbucking vintage style pickups since I had to rewind the pickups of my 73..Fender Stratocaster.
All David Barfuss Pickups are handwound/scatterwound by guiding the magnetwire with my hand while the coil is spinning on the winder.
It came out verry fast that Scatterwinding adds a special dynamic to a pickup wich can not be compared to a industrial machine wind.
The singlecoil pickups: Strat,Tele,Jazzmaster,Jazzbass,P-Bass,P-90,P-94,ASAT-Alnico use bobbins made of Forbon/Vulcanizedfiber wich are routed by myself here in the workshop.
The magnets will be assembled to the bobbin flatwork and lacquered before winding.This protects the bobbin from warping and the coil from shorting out against the magnet rods.
All pickups are wax potted to eliminate feedback and microphonics.
