My work has been published in books and magazines. A short story of mine called "Blindsided," was adapted to film by director David L. Jackson and premiered at the Small Town Film Festival in Canada on Halloween 2008. A trailer for the film is posted below. The entire 20 minute short can be seen at reelconnect.com. Since the release of BLOOD WORKS, I have enjoyed many wonderful opportunities: I've done signings at cafes, independent bookstores and large chain bookstores. I've been a guest on numerous radio programs, appeared on a cable access television show, and have also been featured in newspapers. I am also a guest speaker for New Jersey Libraries. My programs focus on many areas of the craft: the art of writing and language, inspiring others, staying focused, and following your own artistic path.

Here's a synopsis for my book BLOOD WORKS, published by Arctic Wolf: Horror manipulates everyone on many levels. Fear is an emotion that every human being will confront in their existence. No one knows for sure when it's coming, or what shape it will take, but rest assured...it will find us all. Now we can experience the thrill of engaging in those situations together, by living vicariously through characters that are dumped into scary circumstances, and then left all alone to cling to life, or meet their demise. The tales in this collection dare to take the reader on a journey. They are going to thrust you directly into the bowels of danger. Blood Works wants to grab hold of you, frighten you, and tell you another terrifying story. Because if there's one essential component to being in fear; it's knowing that when it latches on and refuses to let go... that you're still alive, and you can keep turning the pages!

Here's what you can expect from BLOOD WORKS:

"Bad Connection": Darren Beckwith is betrayed by his girlfriend and must deal with her sudden change of heart. But what if he can't? How far will he go to release the pain?

"Blink Of An Eye": Paul and Renee hit the road for a vacation, a trip to recharge the batteries before life gets busy again. But they have no way of knowing what troubles they will find, or if they can survive the horror of the long, winding freeway.

"Dead End": Married life brings many challenges, among them being faithful. But for one couple, a big mistake has unexpected and terrifying consequences.

"Deadly Secret": Mike arrives at a party with his girlfriend and sister. However, he had promised to stop by his friend Nathan's house during the night. On this rainy evening, driving along innocently to his pal's place, he finds danger. His survival depends on one thing: Can he keep his mouth shut?

"No One Survives The Holidays": Thanksgiving is a stressful time. Becky flies home to see her parents and learns firsthand what happens when the pressure is too much.

"Skinned Alive": Veronica, consumed with beauty and perfection, remains unsatisfied despite her near-perfect exterior. One night her obsession with looks becomes her worst nightmare.

"Beyond The Dark Glass": Two best friends since high school (Amanda and Julie) get together for a few days of fun. One of them makes a decision that uncovers a horror no one could have expected.

"Mind Plays Tricks": What happens when someone enters an abandoned office building alone? Strange things occur.

"Death Do Us Part": An old man lumbers through a cemetery, staring at the tombstones. What exactly is he looking for?

During the latter part of 2007, Jackson read my story and decided he wanted to see it come alive on screen. He wrote the screenplay, assembled a crew, and then production began during the first half of 2008. After shooting was completed the film was accepted at the Small Town Film Festival and premiered on Halloween! Click on the video box to see a preview: BlindSided Teaser Trailer

About me:

What is EVERY WORD COUNTS?

EVERY WORD COUNTS is a home for all unpublished writers, a place where they will never be turned away, a place where they are free to express themselves and make friends. Art exists to bring people together. My blog is devoted to writers of all kinds. This program is here to stay-- and I'm here to help.

Writing well takes time and rigorous practice. Using words and being able to touch others with them is addictive and challenging, but worth the effort if you’re serious about the craft. Putting your work in front of the public, knowing you’re going to be judged, takes courage. I enjoy meeting fellow writers and doing what I can (I know it’s not much) to make their adventures a little smoother.

If you’d like to place a piece of work in EVERY WORD COUNTS, the process is simple. I am open to all kinds of experiments: short stories, poetry, novel excerpts, song lyrics, screenplays, essays, articles, and anything else writers can bring to life. If you want to be interviewed just say so. If you’d like to submit a biography so the readers can get to know you that’s fine too. As I’ve said before, the focus of this program is to help fellow writers get exposure. If you’re interested in being featured in EVERY WORD COUNTS all you have to do is send me a message or e-mail me (authordboyle@yahoo.com). That’s all there is to it. Contributors will be placed in my "top friends" list! You never know who's looking at your work or where you'll catch a break. I look forward to hearing from you. And, as always, thank you for listening.

Keep on creating!

Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my new erotic horror novel THE 13TH is now in stores everywhere! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride!

There's even a website devoted just to the book, with an interactive map of the places and characters at www.the13th-horror.com.

Edward Lee called THE 13TH "A double-barreled shotgun blast of macabre entertainment -- an expert amalgamation of grotesquerie, eroticism, mystery, and pitch-black occult horror that no fan of the genre can miss."

And Gary A. Braunbeck said, "John Everson's The 13th is the first out-and-out horror novel in a long while to actually scare the **** out of me while reading it. It's stylish, extremely well-written, filled with richly-drawn characterizations, and boasts a labyrinthine plot worthy of Umberto Eco. Trust me -- this one will fry your nerves and break your heart."

"Some writers one admirers and others make one want to do as they do, or try. For me, Joe Pulver is of the latter type. His imagination is so vile so much of the time that it makes me giggle with amazement. And the prose so deadly visionary. I'm grateful that the pieces in this collection are those of a fellow horror writer who has raised the ante on what it means to be such a creature." - Thomas Ligotti
