David Fitzgerald’s career has combined performing, composing & teaching as well as being something of a journey through various musical environments & genres. Following study at the prestigious Royal Marines School of Music in Deal, Kent, David served as principal flute & saxophone within HM Band of the Royal Marines throughout the world & principally in the Far East (where he also discovered & worked within Chinese musical genres & ensembles). Following some ten years within Her Majesty's RM Band David then moved on to working within the musical world of popular & world cultures (with artists as diverse as Geno Washington & the Ram Jam Band, Bob Miller & the Millermen & the Bournmouth Sinfonietta). He has recorded for many other artists (mainly within the pop industry and also for TV & Radio programmes for the BBC and Indepedent networks).
With his Christian faith very much at the centre of his life, David has devoted his time & energy to working with many artists within the Christian Music industry. In 1989, following visits to the islands of Lindisfarne & Iona, he co-founded the musical project IONA , the result of discoveries made into the origins of the Christian faith within these Islands (with the main focus being the Celtic Saints of these Islands and the impact that their lives, writings, art and pioneering work have made & how these continue to influence & inspire to this day). After two hugely successful recordings (Iona & Book Of Kells) David left the project & went back to study at APU (Colchester & Cambridge), focussing two years of this study into the origins & relevance of Christian Music throughout history (in all traditions). He has since undertaken extensive television & recording work (including an inspirational series for BBCTV entitled 'First Light' - produced by the very excellent Graham Judd). David now devotes much of time teaching, adjudicating, playing & directing worship, classical & jazz ensembles and continues to record & appear in concerts as soloist and as guest musician with various artists.
For the last 4 years David has been invited to join the very distinguished team of adjudicators at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales (which was established in 1947). This is a world-renowned festival of music, song & dance and attracts performers from all around the world. Since 2005 the festival has featured their International Celtic Day, in the shadow of Castell Dinas Bran. This part of the Festival is nothing less than a celebration of Celtic music, song & dance where pipes, fiddles, drums, choirs & Celts from across the Globe compete on stage, in the field & in the Great Pavilion. Do please visit: www.international-eisteddfod.co.uk to discover more about this unique musical event.
David has toured & recorded with many Christian artists & worship leaders over the years, including Graham Kendrick, Ron Kenoly (USA), Don Moen (USA), Barry & Batya Segal (Israel), Chris Bowater, Dave Fellingham, Paul Field, Don Francisco (USA), Martyn Joseph, Noel Richards, Vinesong (South Africa), Sheila Walsh (USA) & Adrian Snell. He has appeared in many BBCTV 'Songs Of Praise' programmes over the years & worked with artists such as Sir Harry Secombe, Lesley Garrett CBE & the New English Orchestra). David has also recorded for six CD recordings in the 'Celtic Expressions of Worship' series & also for the ground-breaking 'City Of Gold' recordings (which also toured the UK for a number of years). His highly acclaimed solo projects include ‘Columcille’, ‘Lux Aeterna’, ‘Breath of Heaven’ and ‘God Is Love’. These have now been combined to form a 4CD box set, entitled ‘In Paradisum’, and was released by ICC in 2006.

It has been a great while since I had a long listen to your music on Myspace. Well, today, I have had it playing all afternoon while writing lyrics and poetry. I can't begin to express how moved I am from listening to the crystal clear beauty of your talent. I feel as though I have been transported to the most high and heavenly places possible and to the far regions of this earth and beyond. Simply stunning music, etheral and so pure. I love them all but one favourite is Dream. Music and vocals are breathtaking.
thanks for adding me as a friend. I simply love listening to the music on your site. Soon I'll be going to an IONA-concert in The Netherlands; I hope they will be selling some of your albums there.
Hello, Great working with you the last couple of days....will be with After The Fire in Halesworth on 27th November, if you fancy a nostalgia-fest! Have dug out the Iona CDs and Simon has become an instant fan. Bestest, Jonathan 'Bloke'
Dear David, Dropping by to let you know how much I enjoyed the new project that you and Dave B have done. Beautiful inspiring work as always. Also, good to see your comment in Liz Babbs book. She is a lovely lady and it was an honour to be included in her book. A lyric I wrote many years ago for Iona. Hope you are keeping well. We must have a chat again sometime. Cheers and God bless, Cindy
Was just listening to the new tracks you uploaded, Hineh Lo Yanum is stunning! I once had a copy of your album Columcille but *shame* I lost it cause I left it in someone else's CD player, so all I have left now is the box...I checked out your site and saw that the first four of your solo CD's are now available in a four CD box set. I'd love to order it and checked out a Dutch site that appears to sell it: http://www.bol.com/nl/p/muziek/in-paradisum/1000004004697562/index.html but there it is mentioned as only one disc? What do you think, is it the right CD box?
Hi David, thanks for the words of encouragement, it means a lot. Tyler is playing Columba Aspexit from your 'Breath of Heaven' album. I have this album on my phone, and it's a lovely way to wake up in the morning as a peaceful alarm! Thanks again, Keri Degg.
Dear David, Thanks for your word ! We received your 4 Cd boxcollector "In Paradisum" and it is amazing to listen and to "follow" ! The dancers and the worshippers here are sooo blessed :-). We thank you so much for your inspiration and the windows wide open onto heaven and "paradise". We will be dancing and teaching in Scotland in July ... is it far away from you ? Truly in Him, Kristine

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I came across some stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, the fundamentals are still relevant today.
