Oasis, Beatles, Coldplay, Stone Roses, Idlewild, to name a few...
Sounds Like
A brief video of me playing I Predict A Riot with The Dane Tracey Experience last summer, excuse my slightly out of tune vocal backing...
Dunno, make up your own minds! At the moment, most of what I write is influenced by Oasis, Coldplay and Idlewild I guess.
I started playing guitar in 1990 at the age of 9, playing classical guitar up until the age of 15, when I discovered rock music via Oasis. At the age of 16 I got my first electric guitar, and started playing in a concert band at school, playing tv themes, Blues Brothers medleys and topical covers.
After brief cameos in several bands, including a guest slot with American band Amadeus in Michigan, USA, I eventually formed my own band when I joined Roehampton University in 2002 with Malcolm Cameron. Called Phuket, we gigged locally around the Putney/Fulham area, with Malcolm and singer Adam writing the songs. In 2003 I finally found the confidence to write songs and show them to the band, but by then the band was falling apart, with Adam walking out and commitment issues with drummers forcing the band to cancel their last gig and take a break.
I got back in touch with Colin Miller a couple of years ago through the powers of MySpace, and after many conversations and meetings down the pub we finally met for a jam (8 years after we suggested it!). It was here that Colin showed me how to record music using a PC, and the many songs and compositions that he had compiled using his laptop and TASCAM soundcard. A search to find a drummer proved fruitless and dreams of forming a band faded.
2008 provided a few false starts, but now (April 2009) I have started jamming with Jack Collins on drums, and Colin has taken up the bass. We're jamming covers as well as songs me and Colin have written. We'll be setting up a new website soon, and hopefully we'll be videoing our next session.

Hi David Fry :)
Hope you had a great New Year and all the best for 2007 :) We've been working hard and have big plans for 2007 - but we could really use YOUR help (which is why we're contacting everyone :)). We're hitting the rehearsals soon and will be recording in March. After that we want to go on tour with our mini-album between Fri 21st April and Sun 6th May.
Unlike some bands - we really want to tour for our friends. We'd love to hear from you if you think you can help us come to your town. You may know a venue or a promoter. You may be able to help us advertise the gig or perhaps you can help us find a place to stay for the night. Or if you want to help design the album or posters - anything. Even if all you can do is lend some moral support we'd love to here from you. Email root@outofthegray.com and hopefully we'll be playing near you soon. Thanks for your time :)
Out Of The Gray
PS: If you can't wait 'til April - we're playing ONE gig at the Dry Bar, Manchester - supporting Hafdis Huld on Friday 9th February :)
