David Garfield's mission statement is I make music. And make music he does, as a world-renowned keyboard artist, producer, and composer. Be it jazz, rock, funk, or world beat he is the creative force behind the production of many internationally acclaimed recordings.
David started his career with jazz greats such as Willie Bobo, Freddie Hubbard, and Tom Scott in the 70's. After being on the L.A. scene for several years, he moved into the vast studio world during its heyday and earned a reputation for fine craftsmanship and versatility. This work eventually led to composing opportunities for television, film, and commercials (NBC / Disney / Nippon Television / RTL Germany).
During the 80's, Garfield arranged and produced many top Japanese artists and went on to produce his own projects for release in Japan. For the past 20 years, he has enjoyed continued popularity and success in that part of the world.
Forming Creatchy Productions, he worked with the top musicians, engineers, and studios in Los Angeles to create his own unique and contemporary musical sound. This endeavor eventually led to the birth of Creatchy Records and the release of several classic CD's including Los Lobotomys, a collaboration with some members of the group Toto.
His first international release on Creatchy Records, Tribute to Jeff, featured 78 musicians and artists including Don Henley, Eddie Van Halen, Michael McDonald, and Richard Marx, a virtual who's who in the music industry. Widely recognized around the globe, this heartfelt project reached the Top 10 Charts in Japan (Pop) and the U.S. (NAC). David quickly followed up Tribute to Jeff with I Am The Cat . . . Man, which was also enthusiastically received worldwide.
In addition to these solo endeavors, David has led the popular jazz fusion band Karizma for 30 years. This band has spawned some of the great musical talents of our time such as drummers Vinnie Colaiuta and Carlos Vega and guitarist Michael Landau. Karizma has released six CD's to date on Creatchy Records including the best-selling Document.
Garfield continues to have ongoing music relationships with George Benson (he is frequently Bensons Musical Director), Boz Scaggs, and Natalie Cole. Over the years, he has recorded with Cher, Spinal Tap, The Rippingtons, Ratt, Larry Carlton, and Smokey Robinson and has performed live with Michael Bolton, The Blue Brothers, Brenda Russell, and Rick Braun to name a few.
Giving Back is David Garfield's most recent Creatchy Records release, which once again features world-class musicians and artists. Recorded in both Los Angeles and New York, these 13 hot new tracks reflect a fresh direction for his West Coast Sound. Enjoying regular air-play in the U.S., Japan, Europe, and Australia, the response to Giving Back has been overwhelming and its popularity with listeners continues to grow David's international fan base.
Currently living in the Los Angeles area, David always strives to expand his talents while pursuing a wide range of activities whether it be performing with his own bands, as a guest player with other popular artists, or producing artists/groups such as Oleta Adams, Flora Purim, and Los Lobotomys. In addition, he writes and produces his own music and is looking forward to several new Creatchy Records projects to be released in the near future. His new book, "Pop and Rock Keyboards", is now available from Hal Leonard Publishing. Due to Garfield's diverse musical background and versatility, he has earned the respect of both his peers and critics alike and is one of the most in-demand musicians in the world today.
Hey David, wanted to make the spaghettini gig, but couldn't. Was just watching the old Karizma vid with Carlos again, and just noticed that it was Dean Cortez on bass, we rehearsed for a while at my Pico loft, with Peter Riley on keys, Elpidio Cobian on congas and Tommy Trujillo on guitar, I got some reel to reel from those jams. Stay well old friend.
