Musically I guess my biggest influences were Elvis, B.B. King, Jerry Butler, The Tams, Chester Mayfield, B. S. Plair, Junior Walker, then later on Skynyrd. the Doobies, and Eagles. As far as my songwriting, first on the list would be my Mother. To my earliest memories we were always making up songs and rhymes, my Aunt Elizabeth Newell, and Randy Parker. I guess my 'successful' writing hero though is Shel Silverstein. The man could write some trashy songs.
Sounds Like
Welllllll, I sound like me. I have been told that I shouldn't do Blue Grass, and that my real strength is '50s - '70s R&B (Beach Music), but I have a pretty good range of vocal styles. To my regret I am starting to loose a couple of notes off my three octave range (you have to practice) but I still do OK.
I am a singer/song writter from Rock Hill, SC. I've been singing and playing music since i can remember. I do covers and originals and I DJ events as well. I began as a saxaphone player/vocalist playing clubs and bars at 14 with my band director's group. As my skills improved I was in demand in my area more and more until I was playing with several bands at once. Then in the early '70s the Army and life in general got in the way and music became a hobby. Paid my dues, just never got to go to the meeting.
I began seriously writing music in 2001 and my first cd is called don't take it seriously, Hopfully I will have a new three CD selection with these titles. 1. "Drinking for Daze", 2. Advice and Dissent", and 3. Table Scraps"
I play some bar gigs, parties, and events. I also do openers at local venues for "real" stars. My alter-ego teaches auto mechanics and plays with old cars, loves his wife and kids, and worries about the future of civilization.
