Keep an eye out for more announcements over the coming weeks regarding gigs and festival appearances. David James Herbert's songs are big in many ways. His voice is direct and unmissable, his well-hewn tunes are quick to lodge in your mind and then there's that undeniably celtic sense of scale that defines a track like 'Icebergs'. But Herbert is no straightforward heartfelt troubadour. 'Coffee In St Pauls' is a delicately crafted ballad for the small hours, 'The Life And Times Of The Man With No Name' is the kind of rockabilly polka that Sons and Daughters might have written, 'Born Again Hooligan' is driven like an in-form Oasis belter, and 'She Is On My Mind' is a miniature lament that layers jagged electric guitars over folk guitar and piano. A big sound that doesn't deny subtlety or scrimp on the detail.
Press for "Turn Up Your Silence" (2006):
"Heavy with spirit, emotion and sadness." BILLBOARD MAGAZINE “David knows how to make people stop in there tracks and listen. With his wonderful lyrics and fantastic music this guy is going to go far." MUSIC NEWS SCOTLAND "A mini-epic, full of electronic and emotional tension" DROWNED IN SOUND “Looks – and sounds – every inch the troubadour!”****DAILY RECORD“This is nothing like the archetypal singer/songwriters who follow the same formula and bore everyone to tears (yes, I’m looking at you Blunt!) This is a remarkable album for someone of Herbert’s age both in the quality and depth of songwriting but also in the quality of the production work too. Freddie Mercury once said about success Talent will out I only hope that this is the case for David James Herbert because he has the vast talent, now he just needs to be heard by the wider public. Surely, anyone who hears this album can’t help but be astonished and hooked in" HEATHEN ANGEL
