  • Barbados's Reggae Ambassador David Kirton travels with the changing sesons

Barbados's David Kirton packs up his guitar and travels with the changing seasons, this time the acclaimed Modern Roots Reggae singer songwriter finds him self a welcome base on the college circuit.
Recently Kirton formed an alliance with Degy Entertainment, an established New Jersey based College Booking Agency who specializes in pairing performing songwriters with Campuses and Armed Forces bases. After a successful NACA, National Association for Campus Activities, showcase hosted by DEGY and The Barbadian Association of Music Entrepreneurs David Kirton is booked for a fall tour performing a mix of acoustic and band dates. On this tour Kirton will be preforming with a four piece backing band and as an acoustic guitar duo featuring Barbadian musician David Pilgrim, who is based in New Jersey.
Kirton continues to expand his original modern roots reggae sound preparing for the release of his fourth album in 2012. His music creates a vibe and energy that reflects the culture and heritage of his homeland mixed with his modern travelers views and adopted international sounds. Kirton said "My progression in music has been organic. I never follow the trends but, take note. I have been fortunate to learn from some of the best entertainers and producers in my Caribbean community how to transform visions into songs and dreams into a life long musical journey.".
Today's music market is fragmented but the cracks allow for artists like Kirton, from obscure regions, to find a way to reach new fans and foster established ones. The college market may still prove to be the music industries strongest taste makers. Kirton's thoughts on how he stays inspired "To win this fight, I take up my guitar, raise my voice and touch lives".

  • World Music @ SXSW: David Kirton of Barbados

  • David Kirton to perform at SXSW

    Remember the Camouflage!

This March while most Barbadian's will be flying kites David Kirton will be flying the Barbadian flag high in Austin Texas at the annual South by South West (SXSW) Music Conference.

    During the
past two decades, the South by Southwest Music and Media
Conference has earned a reputation as the premier showcasing
opportunity in America for acts on the cusp of breaking into the
mainstream. For artists like David Kirton from independent labels, SXSW has leveled
the playing field, building critical word-of-mouth that is as
valuable as any major-label marketing budget. The New York Times said "SXSW is still a place where record label scouts see bands and
make deals. But it is also, for many more performers, a hub for
operating outside the recording business.... It could be finding a
European distributor for a self-released album or the offer of a
    Midwestern college tour instead".
    This

conference is a reminder of how many professionals it takes to turn an
amateur band into a popular MP3. Here, "behind the scenes" is the
scene: the place is packed with publicists, a&r, bloggers,
reviewers, managers, booking agents, marketing teams and even a few
old-fashioned radio D.J.s. Companies such as Quick Silver, Sony
Erickson, Rolling Stone Magazine, Blender and Vibe  and media giants
BBC and NPR  Radio set up shop in Austin for the week.   The one thing
they all have in common is that they are seeking new music. This is a
big part of what makes SXSW tick and work for artists like David
Kirton.  David Kirton will perform in two showcases a  "Music Stimulus Party"
being held on Friday March 20th  being at The Parish on 6th Street and
the second holding a prime time venue and slot at the popular Flamingo
Cantina on Saturday, March 21st  at 9.pm.

International interest in SXSW began in 1989 due to many Austin, Texas
and American-based bands finding their first success in Europe.
Conversely, there was a lot of interest from SXSW registrants in the
international bands who came to perform. SXSW now has offices in
Ireland, Germany, Australia and Japan who help bring SXSW registrants
to Austin. The music event has grown from 700 people in 1987 to nearly
10,000 people.  At SXSW Kirton will be accompanied by his management,
PR, Booking and radio team and his music director Andre Jonson.
