I was thrilled to bring home four awards home from the SAW Mid-Atlantic Song Contest in December. In spite of the name, the contest had entries from all over the world. I won the Silver in the Instrumental category and the Gold in Folk, the largest category in the contest. That sure felt good.
A quick introduction to live solo concerts... Watch here for clips from a trio show (with hip-hop dancers!), coming soon.
In 2004 I wrote Your Smile to honor Special Olympics athletes. Below is a video edited to a live recording of Your Smile, taped at the opening of the 2004 NC Summer Games. The video was conceived by Jeff Ross and edited by Scott Ross.

Here's what the press kit says:
It's been sixteen years since David LaMotte has had a real job or a real haircut. In that time he has recorded ten albums and performed 2000 shows in 45 states and on four continents.
His song Dark and Deep was selected for inclusion on Songs Inspired By Literature, Chapter One, a benefit CD to raise money for adult literacy campaigns. Other artists on that CD include Suzanne Vega, Aimee Mann, Grace Slick and Bruce Springsteen.
David has performed on the main stage of the internationally known Kerrville Folk Festival, and he was featured as the headline act at the 2004 Auckland Folk Festival. While there he was awarded lifetime membership in the Guitar Association of New Zealand, only the third international performer to be given that honor in the history of the organization.
David is the co-founder and director of Proyecto para las Escuelas Guatemaltecas, a non-profit organization that funds projects to improve schools in Guatemala. For more info, check the web site: www.pegpartners.org.
In the last year LaMotte has published a children's book based on his award-winning childrens song S.S. Bathtub, a live concert DVD and a retrospective collection of Peace and Justice songs from his previous records, as well as his latest CD, Change, a collaborative project with cellist Stephanie Winters. Fayette Presbyterian Church is proud to welcome David for a night of his amazing music and story telling. The shows will be at Fayette Presbyterian Church on October 26th. David will play 2 shows, one at 4:00 with more of his kid focused music, and then at 6:30 he will do his more traditional show.
I am hoping to make one of the Georgia Concerts, since your Farewell Concert is SOLD OUT! That's wonderful tho. It just goes to show that you have a loyal fan base, and I really admire that.
Love you and send my love to Deanna as well. I would really love to get to know her more before you guys take off to Australia. I must say that it is a wonderful opportunity for you and I am very proud of you. Dad (Uncle Ed) would be very proud of you too!

Hey David, Saw you this week at College Connection down at Mo Ranch. As it was last year, it was an awesome experience and especially nice to have a little chat with you, and hear some good conversation starting at your world changing 101 workshop. We'll miss you next year out at MO, but like you said, you're not changing vocations, and even as you try to remind people of their connectedness in new ways, remember that all of your music is still doing that from afar, and that your music won't stop affecting lives after you stop singing on stage. Blessings to you and your family (soon to be bigger!) in this new adventure, and don't forget to update the blog! -Cindy Farrar
