David Lee Murphy is one of Country Music's most revered artists. He scored Top 5 hits with such classic songs as "Dust On The Bottle," "Party Crowd," "Loco" and "The Road You Leave Behind." As a song writer Murphy has written hits for Kenny Chesney ("Living In Fast Forward"), Blake Shelton ("The More I Drink"), Eli Young Band ("Always The Love Songs"), Jason Aldean ("Big Green Tractor"), Gary Allan ("A Feelin' Like That"), Aaron Tippin ("People Like Us"), Trick Pony ("On A Mission"), Brooks & Dunn, Brad Paisley, Montgomery/Gentry, Hank Williams, Jr., Chris LeDoux and others. The title track to his Tryin' To Get There album was co-written with Waylon Jennings.
David Lee continues to concentrate on songwriting as there seems to be no home for him as an artist on a Nashville label. He co-wrote the latest Eli Young Band single "Always The Love Songs" and the Jason Aldean single "Big Green Tractor". For a complete listing of David Lee's songs which have been recorded by other artists, visit the OFFICIAL website at Davidlee.com. Click on the Music icon and then click on Song Cuts. You can also hear some of DLM's Prime Cuts by other artists on the jukebox of this site.
In addition to songwriting, Murphy maintains an active touring schedule playing select dates throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia and Europe.
Murphy fans call themselves the "Party Crowd" and have been known to travel great distances to attend a Murphy concert performance. One concert promoter said Murphy's fans were like a Country Music version of the Grateful Dead "Heads". Murphy is known for his no frills, hard rockin', live performances.

A special "shout out" to all our service men and women who are unselfishly serving our country to protect our freedom. Y'all are the best!
NOTE: Since DLM's first label MCA/Universal will not allow us to post videos or songs in their entirety, here are some links to several DLM videos that you might enjoy viewing.
Good idea Grant. I got into DLM back in the late late 90's...better late than never right. My DLM story is that a buddy of mine headed down to Paducah Kentucky to see him play a NYE show (1999 maybe) at some hotel where we also stayed (no driving - we may have had a little to drink).
Anyway, before the show, we were hanging around and saw a sign for a meet and greet for the fan club so we walked in the door and got in this line. Someone asked if we were in the fan club and we just said "yup"...good thing they did not ask for the secret hand shake or something because that was all it took and we were shaking DLM's hand in a few minutes. Oh...and the show was unbelievable...towards the end of the show, everyone ran down to the front of the stage. What a night! Still have the guitar pick he threw at me. PS MORE TOUR DATES PLEASE!
Hey David Lee...Just saw that "Always The Love Songs" was on the list of Most Played Songs of 2009 at last night's ASCAP Awards. Waaaaay cool!!! I LOVE that song! You are THE BEST songwriter on the planet!!! I'm so proud of you!
At 15, Dad played the Grand Ole Opry Ryman Auditorium. He taught me a few chords when I was 8. I played rock-n-roll as a kid in the late 60s through late 70s. Spent the 80s in college bands, which I'd like to forget. Gave up on music because rap was taking over - I just don't get it. In 93, my sister handed me a CD and said give it a listen, it's newer country. I did, and immediately figured out where my music had gone - NASHVILLE!!!
In November, 1994, I received a Country Video Monthly subscription. You basically received a VHS of the latest videos. David Lee was featured with Fish Ain't Bitin' and I was hooked on that guitar sound. Plus he was going fishin' and had hot video chicks! Also, Sally Cantrell worked behind the bar, she didn't smooth fur, and broke up fights over Chevys and Fords! LOL!!! To this day Out With A Bang is my favorite Album - In my mind there were 8 #1 hits on that CD alone - I pick and sing'em all the time.
I headed to Fan-Fair the next year, partly because of David Lee and that guitar sound I needed to know more about. Met the boy several times over, here and there over the years, various shows and around Nashville. You'd be surprised how many hit songs David Lee has written for other artists I know. He writes real songs about real situations, and that makes him genuine. BTW, I love pickin' all the DLM songs, but lately my friends request Genuine Rednecks...It fits us all!!! GMan
Hey David, I just listened to and watched the Blackberry Smoke video for "Good One Coming On" and I just had to let you know that I absolutely LOVE this song! You, Lee Roy and Gary are gonna see this one go places, I think, because there is nothing about the song that doesn't say "Hit"!! BS does an awesome job of singing it and you guys did an awesome job of writing it. How can it NOT go places!!! Great job, David, I'm proud of all of you!! Love and hugs!!!
I can fell a good one coming on. What a great song keep up the great work .Im proud to be part of your career. You can also keep at the top of youe pal list 4 ever.
First time I heard DLM on the radio, (that I remember), it was "Party Crowd"...I remember thinking what a unique voice the singer had and being hooked.
First time I saw DLM was in Puyallup, Washington...September 17, 1996, with Brooks & Dunn. Three hour drive up, three hour drive home. Ended up in the last row at the top of the grandstands...but it was totally worth it! Hadn't gotten my fan club stuff in the mail in time, but DLM's road manager at the time, Doug Hunter, said my check stub was proof enough and I got to go to the meet & greet before the show. The whole thing was great, and well worth the 1 hour sleep I got when I got home, before having to get up and get ready for work the next day. (:
As for where I'd like to see DLM play...ANYWHERE near Portland, Oregon/Vancouver, Washington! Pleeeaaassseee!!! (:
Favorite DLM video? Hmmm...Probably "She's Really Something To See", or "The Road You Leave Behind".
The first time I recall seeing DLM was on CMT, he came out with the video "JUST ONCE" it blew me away!!! Such a handsome man, he resembles Elvis so much. The first time I saw him was at the Scioto County Fair in Lucasville, Ohio back in 94 I believe? Anyway, he was even better looking in concert. Ofcourse when he signed autographs I was a bundle of nervous, forgot everything that was inside of my head....ha ha But he was so down to earth and sweet, I was glad I went to see him. I would love to see him here in southern Ohio again soon. My favorite song.....ummmm that is a hard one.....probably BRINGIN HER BACK or SHE DON'T TRY TO MAKE ME LOVE HER, but David has so many great songs who can pick, DLM isn't your ordinary county singer, "I" think he posesses a gifted talent that only a few understand. My favorite video would have to be "JUST ONCE" because that is how he came to my attention, not to say all are any less. I am honored that I have had the pleasure of meeting such a talented and handsome man, with a wonderful personality!!! Hugs, Paula
Ok, Grant, here goes!! I can't remember what the song was but the first time I saw DLM was on CMT and I was hooked from then on! I met him for the first time at a show here in Michigan in 1996. I would love for him to do a show right here in my backyard!! My favorite video? Well, I love The Road You Leave Behind and She's Really Something to See, although they never showed that one much. I love ALL of DLM's videos! I've met David probably about 35 times since 1996, the last time being Aug. of 2008. I absolutely love going to his shows and I'm sad I haven't been able to go to one this year. David is one of the nicest guys I've ever met and I'm proud to call him my friend. A super fan? You bet I am!!
Okay DLM Super Fans, THIS could be FUN! I've been a fan of DLM's since waaaaay back and even been lucky to meet my buddy a few times. I'm curious to hear the individual stories of how each of YOU have maybe had an opportunity to meet David Lee. Just post it here, and please feel free to include details such as these:
The first time you recall hearing a DLM song, and which song was it?
The location or event where you met DLM for the first time.
