............ ..............> ......DAVES RESUME......(scroll down for song notes).... For over 25 years, I've played in various styles of bands, (classic rock, blues, instrumental surf, pop, etc...). I play guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and have sung lead and harmony vocals. I also write songs. Most recently I've been playing more solo acoustic guitar stuff, and have performed with John Winn in Fruita and Paonia. The songs I've posted to myspace are songs I've recorded over the years. (for more info, refer to 'Song Notes' below).... I spent the first 40 years of my life in California, so most of my live performing has been in California bars, restaurants and various venues. I even had the privilege of playing at the Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles... My main influences are Fleetwood Mac (from Peter Green to some of the newer stuff), CCR, Led Zeppelin, Chris Isaac, Dire Straits, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Beatles, The Waterboys. .... I play acoustic and electric guitar using a finger picking style. My bass playing is not too flashy, John McVie-ish, although I have played some Rush, Motown and Funk in the past. When playing keyboards, I love the Hammond B3 Organ and try to work that in whenever possible, otherwise I try to stay true to acoustic/classic sounds (piano, elec piano, not too much synth, etc...). I love playing drums and have played at various times in different bands. .. My equipment includes Fender and Rickenbacker electric guitars, a Rickenbacker 4003 bass and a Fretless bass I picked up for cheap but sounds real nice, Korg and Roland keyboards, Acoustic guitars, Roland V-Drums and other misc instruments..... I currently own and operate Davis Photography in Grand Junction, CO..... >....SONG NOTES........ All songs written, performed and recorded by David Lester unless noted..... ...."Welcome".... - As my family grew, acoustic drums didn't seem to sound as good to those not playing them. Enter Roland V-Drums. I was excited to record a song using my new electronic drums, so I recorded about a minute of just drums. I built up from there adding bass, then guitars. I like the keyboard sound I got from my guitar..... ...."I Wish".... - This was the first song I recorded on my digital recorder. I wanted to test my new toy, so I recorded 2 minutes of guitar, squeezing in the 3 elements of a song I was still working on. I did 4 or 5 guitar tracks and bass and then added the drums last. It was never going to be more than a test, so I didn't put much effort into the recording of the drums. The vocals are just scratch vocals, I didn't even have all the words at the time, so my wife likes to give me grief about my 'slurring of words' where I had to fill in. I'd like to do the full version of this song someday..... ...."Henry Poole is Here".... - I had this song about 90% done when I heard about this contest in which they wanted a song for the movie of the same name. I changed a few of the words and submitted it, but it just wasn't what they were looking for. Instruments: Acoustic Guitar, keyboard strings..... ...."GroovE".... - Named so I could remember what key it's in. I wrote this song years ago, even performed it in a few bands, but didn't record it until I got my digital recorder. I love the Hammond B3 organ and use it whenever I can. There's a lot of stuff going on at the end. I like listening to this with headphones to really hear the different guitar leads intertwining at the end. .... ...."One Summer Night".... - This was recorded before I had any drums, so I had to use my drum machine to keep time and to preserve what I wanted the drums to do if I ever got the chance to add real drums. It was recorded on an old 8 track tape machine and transferred to digital later where I added some effects. The name makes no sense, just got tired of calling it 'That jazzy song'. ...."50/50 Spy Fin".... - The Sliders was a surf band I was in back in the late '90's. We decided to try writing some originals and this was one of my contributions. I recorded it in my parents garage using our drummers acoustic drums. ( I didn't have drums of my own yet). I then recorded all the other band members parts so I could present it to them. This was just going to be a demo for the band but people always tell me it sounds authentic. I was kind of making it up as I went along, so when the drums fell apart toward the end, I just incorporated it into sort of a live 'crash&burn' ending..... ...."Colorado Campfire Song".... - I wrote this song years ago while camping in Colorado. Shortly after moving to Colorado in 2006, I met John Winn. John was a local legend having started out in New York with Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Judy Collins. John liked the song and came up with a second guitar part. This recording is from a live performance in Fruita, CO. John also named the song for me, for which I am extremely honored..... .. ......HTML Text Codes....

.."Welcome".. - As my family grew, acoustic drums didn't seem to sound as good to those not playing them. Enter Roland V-Drums.
