Sounds Like
All the above influences, but I'm most often compared to The Eagles, Jackson Browne, and Kevin Welch.
In the grand American songwriting tradition of Buddy Holly, Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and Steve Earle, MacNeill's soaring melodies and insightful lyrics are unforgettable. From driving rockers to acoustic ballads, his songs are built to last.
"David MacNeill has a cell-deep sense of how a great song should be structured and how the story should unfold. His melodies are natural with a quality of having been heard before even though they are original. The best thing about David's music is how it can come from so deep in his soul yet appeal to so many people." ~Bob Cheevers
I am a performing songwriter/guitarist and record producer living in beautiful Boise, Idaho. I've been fortunate to have learned the art of songwriting from one of the greats, my friend and mentor for over two decades: Bob Cheevers of Austin, Texas. We toured England and Scotland as a duo through the summer of 2007 and in summer 2008 we toured again but with me as the opening act. in 2008 we co-wrote and co-produced a Bob Cheevers CD entitled Fiona's World (Berkalin Records). Two of the songs, including the first song on the CD What I've Done For Love and the song Every Beauty I wrote solo. In January 2008 I released my first solo CD Morningtown.
My song "Every Beauty" is slated to be prominently featured in the hit Nickelodeon series "True Jackson VP" in late 2009. It will be performed to my instrumental tracks as a duet by two of the stars of the show, Ashley Argota and Trevor Brown. A music video version is also in production for broadcast on the network and perhaps others.
People ask me what kind of music I write and it's difficult to answer in one breath. It's rock 'n roll like Buddy Holly and the Beatles, it's country rock like the Byrds and the Eagles, it's singer/songwriter like Jackson Browne and Warren Zevon, it's pub rock like Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds, it's uplifting like Bruce Springsteen and cynical like Elvis Costello, it's old school guitar rock like Tom Petty and the BoDeans, and it's acoustic alt-country/Americana like Steve Earle and Kevin Welch.
Hey, it's all rock and roll to me!
I currently perform in a four-piece band playing my music exclusively. These top-flight musicians recreate the rich sound of the album. Since we do not play cover songs, we seek out 1-2 hour showcase gigs and opening act opportunities with compatible artists.
Greetings from the dry, hot hell that is Boise. We are looking forward to the Oregon Coast and Eugene for a week! Enjoy the cool mists and the lovely green while you can!
I'm glad you are rockin' the free world man! We have been as well. 2 more this weekend, then look out hippies in Eugene, here come some make-up wearing, fishnet-donned legs, hot mommas, and John!
