It happens to us all doesn't it? You get to a point where all those dreams and sacrifices, all those nights lugging gear around London, the south coast, The Midlands, Scotland and anywhere else you can get a gig, all those relationships that have folded because, "You just can't let go of the music"
makes you wonder why you even took up music in the first place.
But we love it don't we. No matter what people think of your latest compositions, you can't beat that feeling of writing a new song, when you know you've just played that perfect gig, when a complete stranger tells you that they love your music.
Would I change anything? Well instead of playing a gig to just a roadie and a driver a few times on one tour, I would have liked to have gone to uni I think, but if I had done I would have missed so many good times, so many experiences that not a lot of people have.
So here I am, a 34, not as slim as I used to be musician, who just happens to have to work from 8.30am to 5pm in a company fixing computers and the like. A normal job. As time has passed my musical ambitions have changed. In the beginning apart from being a dream and 'about the music' it was a way to earn millions, a good chat up line, a way to meet with famous, interesting people. I realised long ago that, that was a load of crap. I realised that I just loved making music. I'd don't care about fame. I'd be lying if I said that money wasn't important but rather than have as my epitaph, "Some famous rich guy who wrote music", let it be, "A great guy who wrote some bloody good songs" If you like you could stick "and who just happened to be very wealthy" at the end :)
Anyway, I hope you like my songs. I've nearly finished the album. It's currently in production in my studio (my garden shed) so if you like these songs keep a look out.
On the 5th July 2008, after 13 years away, all 4 original members of The Sway, David Casson (Vocals/Guitar), Jim Kook (Guitar), Paul Hogan (Bass) & Sean Kelly (Drums) will be appearing on stage together. The band are coming together to showcase material from David Casson's new solo project and will no doubt be playing a couple of The Sway classics as well. The band will be joined by keyboard player Matt Smith.
The gig is pencilled in for Saturday 5th July at The Barnet Festival. Please keep an eye on www. myspace. com/theswaylondon and www. thesway. net for full details in the coming weeks. The band commences rehearsals this coming saturday and photo updates will be available on the websites.
Thank you for the add. I found you on Kingmaker's page yesterday. I'm sorry I did not know The Sway.... Your latest songs appealed to me. I look forward to listen to other songs.
As far as I can see you have been the mastermind behind many fine bands of which until now I only knew The Sway. Having listened to it a lot recently I can tell I really like your voice. It touches me and so do the songs. Thanks for the pleasure...
