I'm David, and you may know me from such places as the house of commons, or various Old Ppl's residencies in South Shields (I keep it real as often as i can). I entered the Cabinet as Minister of Communities and Local Government in May 2005 - the post was created to reflect a significant increase in the Office of Deputy Prime Minister's workload.
In May 2006 I moved to Defra where I replaced Margaret Beckett and in June 2007, i became foreign secretary for G.
I was previously appointed Minister for the Cabinet Office on 15 December 2004 and prior to that, Minister of State for Schools from June 2002. I have been Labour Member of Parliament for South Shields since June 2001.
I was previously Head of the Prime Minister's Policy Unit and Head of Policy in the Office of the Leader of the Opposition. From 1989 to 1994 I was Research Fellow at the Institute for Policy Research (IPPR) and from 1992 to 1994 Secretary of the Commission on Social Justice.
I'm president for South Shields football club, if you didn't already know that such a football club existed. (Though i'm still a rampant Arsenal supporter!)
I'd like to think i'm a nice easy-going man, and if you say hello to me on the street, the chances are I'll say hi back. :o)
Primeministership and me. To quote Norris from Coronation Street, 'i love working in the cabin alot; its my life.
& one day i'll make it mine'.
Oh, and i'm half-Jewish if anyone's interested.
